{"id":570372,"date":"2023-10-03T18:00:24","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T01:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=570372"},"modified":"2023-10-03T18:00:24","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T01:00:24","slug":"princeton-hires-mia-nonnenberg-as-assistant-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/princeton-hires-mia-nonnenberg-as-assistant-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Princeton Hires Mia Nonnenberg as Assistant Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Princeton Hires Mia Nonnenberg as Assistant Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Princeton last week announced the hiring of <strong>Mia Nonnenberg<\/strong> as an assistant coach to the men\u2019s swimming and diving team.<\/p>\n<p>Nonnenberg spent the last two years at Penn State as an assistant coach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re delighted to add Mia to our staff. It became clear early in the interview process that Mia&#8217;s goals, values, and motivation were aligned perfectly with Princeton University,&#8221; Princeton head coach <strong>Matt Crispino<\/strong> said <a href=\"https:\/\/goprincetontigers.com\/news\/2023\/9\/21\/mens-swimming-and-diving-mia-nonnenberg-joins-mens-swimming-diving-coaching-staff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a university statement<\/a>. &#8220;In addition to being a world-class swimmer herself, Mia has quickly made a name for herself in the coaching community. With her background and experience, I&#8217;m confident Mia will bring a unique perspective to our staff and help our student-athletes fulfill their potential in and out of the water. We can&#8217;t wait to add her to the PUCSDT family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Under Nonnenberg\u2019s watch, the Nittany Lions set 37 top-10 performances and 11 program records (five men\u2019s, six women\u2019s). She coached an international group that includes top-five national finishers for three different nations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am so excited to be joining the Princeton Men&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving coaching staff alongside Matt Crispino and Chris Balbo,&#8221; Nonnenberg said. &#8220;I have been so impressed by Princeton&#8217;s tradition of excellence both athletically and academically. I cannot thank Matt and Princeton Athletics enough for the incredible opportunity to contribute towards the legacy of the program, while serving some of the best and brightest student athletes in our sport.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nonnenberg swam at the University of Alabama, where she graduated in 2018 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology and communications. She finished in the top 20 at U.S. Olympic Trials in 2016 in both the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley, qualified for NCAAs four times and earned one honorable mention All-American award. She was a two-time team captain and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nonnenberg-sets-alabama-record-at-georgia-tech-invitational\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set team records<\/a> in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 500 free and 1,650 free.<\/p>\n<p>The native of Scranton, Pa., spent her first post-grad year as a volunteer assistant at Alabama. She was an assistant manager for the Toronto Titans in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/toronto-titans-final-isl-roster-kayla-sanchez-anastasia-fesikova-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Swimming League in 2020 and 2021<\/a>, while serving as a graduate assistant at the University of West Florida for two seasons.
