Eastern Illinois Latest Program Suspended Due to Hazing Allegations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eastern Illinois on Thursday became the latest swimming program to suspend itself due to hazing allegations within its men\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

The team has been suspended for the fall semester, per a statement by the university<\/a>. A formal investigation is being conducted by the Office of the Dean of Students.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe health and wellness of our students is EIU\u2019s topmost priority,\u201d officials said. \u201cFor that reason, final decisions on future competition(s) and individual roster eligibility will be determined following the results of the investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

EIU, which competes in the Division I Summit League<\/a>, is the latest program grappling with hazing allegations. Boston College\u2019s program is the highest profile, having been suspended earlier this month<\/a>, first for what the university portrayed as confirmed hazing and then for what it walked back as allegations it is investigating<\/a>.<\/p>\n

EIU Athletics has not commented on the matter yet. It’s women’s team is apparently not affected by the suspension. EIU\u2019s Dean of Students account has, perhaps not coincidentally, posted twice his week about hazing and how to stop it.<\/p>\n
