Arizona State won <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/news\/2023\/9\/23\/swim-dive-swim-and-dive-splits-with-georgia-on-day-two.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the standard short-course yards dual on Saturday<\/a>, 183-117, while Georgia did the same in the women\u2019s, 184-111.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/pac-12-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pac-12 Swimming News<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming News<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s competition, Arizona State set down a very fast 400 medley relay of <strong>Hubert Kos, Leon Marchand, Ilya Kharun and Patrick Sammon<\/strong> in 3:34.37. Kos went 54.29 off the front, with Marchand at 59.90, Kharun at 51.58 and Sammon 48.60. <strong>Jack Dolan<\/strong> and <strong>Jonny Kulow<\/strong> were on the second-place team that went 3:39.39, with Dolan going 55.24. (Kulow\u2019s split was not recorded officially.)<\/p>\n<p>Marchand went 1:57.76 in the 200 IM and 1:36.12 in a 150-meter breaststroke. Kulow clocked in at 22.27 in the 50 free. Kharun went 1:24.52 in the 150-meter butterfly, three seconds ahead of teammate <strong>Alexander Colson.<\/strong> Kos won the 150-meter backstroke in 1:26.55, edging Georgia\u2019s <strong>Ian Grum<\/strong> by four tenths.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia\u2019s <strong>Jake Magahey<\/strong> won a 500-meter freestyle in 4:58.05, with <strong>Daniel Matheson<\/strong> of ASU second. Maghaey finished second in the 150-meter free, behind Sammon\u2019s 1:18.60.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State won three of four relays on the opening day, with Dolan, <strong>John Heaphy,<\/strong> Kharun and <strong>Cam Peel<\/strong> (22.46) going 1:39.35 in the 200 medley.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia won the 200 free relay, despite Kulow splitting 21.72 on the second leg. Georgia went 1:29.71, aided by <strong>Reese Branzell\u2019s<\/strong> 21.81, to edge ASU\u2019s 1:30.00.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side Friday:<\/p>\n<p>Georgia won all four relays contested, the most scintillating the 400 free to cap the day. Georgia won in 3:45.43, the team of <strong>Jillian Barczyk, Helena Jones, Dune Coetzee<\/strong> and <strong>Sloane Reinstein<\/strong> edged ASU by .08 seconds. Reinstein brought it home in 55.30 to outduel the 55.69 of <strong>Ieva Maluka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rachel Stege<\/strong> won the 500 free in 5:18.95 and edged Barczyk by .01 to claim the 150 free in 1:29.81. <strong>Zoie Hartman<\/strong> and Maluka went 1-2 in the 200 IM, the former winning in 2:14.98, and <strong>Bri Roberson<\/strong> and Jones pulled a 1-2 in the 50 free. Hartman also won the 150 breast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charli Brown<\/strong> won the 150 back in 1:39.30, and <strong>Lindsay Looney\u2019s<\/strong> time of 1:36.49 claimed the 150 fly.<\/p>\n<p>In his first yards meet as a Sun Devil, Kharun promptly rewrote the school record in the 100 fly. The Canadian international went 44.88; it downed the 20222 time of 45.01 set by <strong>Max McCusker.<\/strong> Colson, now third on that list, finished second in 47.38. He won the 100 breast in 53.29, the 200 breast in 1:54.39 and the 200 IM in 1:42.35. Teammate <strong>Andy Dobrzanski<\/strong> was second in the 100 in 54.05 and third in the 200.<\/p>\n<p>In the IM, he edged Kos, who didn\u2019t end up with a win. The reigning World champion in the 200 back went 1:41.38 but was edged by .13 by Grum. Kos was fourth in the 100 back, won by <strong>Bradley Dunham.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ASU romped in both relays. Dolan, Marchand, Kharun (19.51) and Kulow (18.59) ripped a 1:22.79 in the 200 medley. The 400 free of Dolan, Kulow (41.37), Sammon and Kharun (41.93) went 2:48.49.<\/p>\n<p>Sammon led a 1-2-3 in the 200 free in 1:34.96. Dolan bested Kulow in the 50 free, 19.16 to 19.31, only for Kulow to turn the tables in the 100 free by .23 seconds in 42.73.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State didn\u2019t have it all their way. <strong>Sam Powe<\/strong> won the 1,000 free in 9:06.93, edging out Magahey, who then won the 500 in 4:19.82, ahead of Dunham.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia\u2019s women\u2019s team started fast with podium sweeps in the first two freestyle events and never looked back. Coetzee edged Stege in the 1,000 with a time of 9:35.69. Reinstein led the back in 1:46.35 in the 200, edging Jones by .08.<\/p>\n<p>Reinstein (49.49), <strong>Eboni McCarty<\/strong> (49.61) and Roberson (49.81) scored the top three places in the 100 free for the Bulldogs. Jones went 22.68 in the 50 in a 1-2 with Roberson. Stege\u2019s 4:41.31 in the 500 free led <strong>Abby McCulloh<\/strong> and Coetzee in a rehash of the 1,000 free podium. No points for guessing that Georgia did well in the 400 free, the exhibitioned A squad going 3:16.20 (McCarty, <strong>Shea Furse,<\/strong> Jones, Reinstein).<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy, Hartman, <strong>Emma Norton<\/strong> and Jones won the 200 medley in 1:38.77. Hartman won the 100 breast in 1:01.13 and the 200 breast in 2:11.67. She added the fastest time in the 200 IM in 1:57.81.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Millie Sansome<\/strong> claimed the 200 back in 1:57.23 for Georgia. Norton\u2019s 54.03 edged Looney in the 100 fly by .11 seconds, denying the 200 fly champ (1:56.84) a second win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arizona State Men, Georgia Women Split Opening Duals;
