As the Boston College men’s and women’s swimming and diving program has been suspended indefinitely for hazing<\/a>, more details are unfolding.<\/p>\n

According to a letter sent to the team by the Office of the Dean of Students, obtained by The Heights<\/a>, the Boston College student newspaper, freshmen in the program were\u00a0allegedly instructed to binge drink and forced to consume their own vomit, part of five Student Code of Conduct violations that might have occurred between Sept. 2-4.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe adjudication process will include an investigation of the reports, followed by a hearing, after which a determination of responsibility will be issued,\u201d the letter reads.<\/p>\n

The University released this statement<\/p>\n

Boston College Athletics has suspended the activities of the Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Swimming and Diving teams following credible reports of hazing. Based on the information known at this time, Athletics has determined a program suspension is warranted, pending a full investigation by the University.<\/em><\/p>\n

Consistent with University policy, the matter will be investigated by the Office of the Dean of Students and adjudicated fairly and impartially through the student conduct process. Once the investigation and adjudication process is complete, Athletics will reassess the status of the teams.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Associate Vice President for University Communications Jack Dunn<\/strong> sent\u00a0an email to\u00a0The Heights<\/em>, writing that that in accordance with Massachusetts state law, the allegations of hazing will be referred to law enforcement.<\/p>\n
