When asked what advice he would give to young swimmers, the Irish Olympian answered, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what age you are, and it doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re not very good when you\u2019re younger. You can always be a good senior swimmer\u2014you just have to put the work in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\nMany swimmers begin the breaststroke arm motion with straight arms so that the hands move above the shoulders into a weak position. A more effective motion is to flex the elbows so that the hands move below the shoulders into a strong position. Swimmers can see and feel the outward scull to better control it. Drills, such as swimming every other stroke of breaststroke without breathing, can help a swimmer master the skills necessary to control the outward scull.<\/span><\/p>\n
