{"id":568985,"date":"2023-09-02T03:06:17","date_gmt":"2023-09-02T10:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=568985"},"modified":"2023-09-02T03:06:17","modified_gmt":"2023-09-02T10:06:17","slug":"adam-peaty-chad-le-clos-sarah-sjostrom-confirmed-for-2023-world-cup-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-chad-le-clos-sarah-sjostrom-confirmed-for-2023-world-cup-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty, Chad Le Clos &#038; Sarah Sjostrom Confirmed For 2023 World Cup Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Adam Peaty, Chad Le Clos &amp; Sarah Sjostrom Confirmed For 2023 World Cup Tour<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> will return to racing at the 2023 World Cup in October with <strong>Chad Le Clos<\/strong> confirmed for the three-stop tour of European capitals.<\/p>\n<p>The tour starts in Berlin from 6-8 October and moves on to Athens (13-15 October) before concluding in Budapest from 20-22 October with all three taking place in a 50m pool ahead of a 2024 that includes the Doha worlds and Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> and <strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> &#8211; both of whom enjoyed historic World Championships in Fukuoka &#8211; are also competing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kristof Milak<\/strong> &#8211; the Olympic 200 butterfly champion &#8211; is also slated to appear although it&#8217;s unclear what his schedule will be.<\/p>\n<p>The world record-holder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kristof-milak-withdraws-from-world-championships-citing-mental-physical-health\/\">withdrew from the 2023 World Championships in June<\/a> because of physical and mental exhaustion and his focus is on his continued wellbeing and return to the water.<\/p>\n<p>Contesting the 50s is one option and there is the allure for the Hungarian of competing in front of a home crowd in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty last competed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-takes-the-touch-ahead-of-james-wilby-in-edinburgh-masse-wiffen-claim-second-victories\/\">Edinburgh International in March<\/a> before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-withdraws-from-world-championship-trials-to-continue-focus-on-mental-health-recovery\/\">he withdrew from the British world trials<\/a> in April to focus on his mental health recovery.<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Olympic champion made his last appearance in international waters at the 2022 World Short-Course Championships where he won bronze in the 100m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qin Haiyang<\/strong> claimed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-six-finals-qin-haiyang-completes-breaststroke-sweep-with-world-record\/\">unprecedented breaststroke clean sweep<\/a> at the <strong>World Championships<\/strong> in Fukuoka in Peaty&#8217;s absence, where the Chinese swimmer became the second-fastest man in history behind the Briton over 50 and 100m while also setting a WR in the 200.<\/p>\n<p>Qin is set to compete in the Asian Games later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Le Clos <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/following-illness-multi-time-titlist-chad-le-clos-opting-out-of-world-championships\/\">also missed the worlds because of illness<\/a> and the World Cup represents an opportunity to return to racing ahead of February&#8217;s Doha worlds and then Paris 2024.<\/p>\n<p>He said through World Aquatics:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThese world cups are important for me to get the momentum back for next year February and of course July.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_534346\" style=\"width: 359px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-534346\" data-attachment-id=\"534346\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adam-peaty-chad-le-clos-sarah-sjostrom-confirmed-for-2023-world-cup-tour\/20th-world-aquatics-championships-fukuoka-2023-swimming-65\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/2023-world-championships-22.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"2400,1600\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;3.2&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;Andrea Staccioli \\\/ Deepbluemedia \\\/ Insidefoto&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;NIKON Z 9&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden celebrates after competing in the 50m Butterfly Women Final during the 20th World Aquatics Championships at the Marine Messe Hall A in Fukuoka (Japan), July 29th, 2023. Sarah Sjostrom placed first winning the gold medal.\" width=\"349\" height=\"249\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-534346\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Courtesy: Andrea Staccioli \/ Deepbluemedia \/ Insidefoto<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The South African is the World Cup all-time event winner and he recalled his first final from the 2022 season when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chad-le-clos-rattles-fina-world-cup-100-fly-record-in-48-58-wasick-fink-casas-win-on-opening-day-in-berlin\/\">he went 48.58 in the 100 fly<\/a> in Berlin in October last year.<\/p>\n<p>It was the 10th-fastest 100 fly in history and marked the start of his training partnership with <strong>Dirk Lange<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt meant the world to me to win my first race in a long time with such a great time, 48.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew I was back because I had changed a lot of things in my life. I was done with losing and that\u2019s when Chad 2.0 was born.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very proud of the way I carried my form through the (short-course) world champs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Winning in Melbourne felt a little like winning Olympics because I had been written off by the swimming community.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> and <strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> are among the women&#8217;s field after both enjoyed a stellar worlds.<\/p>\n<p>With victory in the 50 fly Sjostrom became only the second swimmer to win five straight world titles in one event before going on to take the 50 free, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-day-seven-semifinals-sarah-sjostrom-takes-down-world-record-in-50-freestyle-semis\/\">also lowering her WR to 23.61<\/a> in the semis.<\/p>\n<p>The Swede became the most decorated athlete in World Championship history, her 21 medals outstripping the 20 of <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Sjostrom said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m super happy with my races this summer at the World Champs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfterwards, I took a well-needed break. Now, I\u2019m back to light training now and, hopefully, I will be able to swim some solid races on the World Cup after this break. I think I will get faster and faster at each stop.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>McKeown became the first woman to claim the backstroke clean sweep in Fukuoka and she&#8217;ll be joined in the back events by four-time Olympic medallists Kylie Masse.<\/p>\n<p>Also there will be 2022 World Cup overall winner Beata Nelson of the USA and Lani Pallister.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adam Peaty, Chad Le Clos &amp;
