{"id":568961,"date":"2023-09-01T11:41:16","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T18:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=568961"},"modified":"2023-09-01T11:41:16","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T18:41:16","slug":"usa-swimming-releases-2024-world-championship-selection-procedure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-releases-2024-world-championship-selection-procedure\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Swimming Releases 2024 World Championship Selection Procedure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>USA Swimming Releases 2024 World Championship Selection Procedure<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>With the early-season 2024 World Championships taking place in an Olympic year, the U.S. will not host a qualifying meet.<\/p>\n<p>But USA Swimming has released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/usa-swimming-2024-world-championships-selection-procedure\/international-elite\/2023\/September\/1?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its selection criteria<\/a> for the unprecedented situation.<\/p>\n<p>The meet takes place Feb. 11-18 in Doha. It was originally scheduled for November of 2023, but was pushed after the postponement of the 2022 World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Without a qualifying meet, USA Swimming will select swimmers based on their times from Oct. 1, 2022 to Nov. 1, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Just one swimmer in each event will be selected, meaning, there will be 14 men and 14 women selected for a complete team of 28, much smaller than usual.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the timing of the meet, several of the big names of the sport are expected to opt out of this World Championships. If that happens, USA Swimming&#8217;s process will go to the second person and so on, through 10. If all of the top 10 swimmers in an event opt out, then no one from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S.<\/a> will swim in that particular event.<\/p>\n<p>Two swimmers could competed in an event if the second swimmer qualified in another event, but has an &#8220;A&#8221; standard in that event, they could swim a second event.<\/p>\n<p>Relays will be comprised of a combination of the 14.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>USA Swimming Releases 2024 World Championship Selection Procedure With the early-season 2024 World Championships taking place in an Olympic year, the U.S. will not host a qualifying meet.
