{"id":568455,"date":"2023-08-28T13:00:43","date_gmt":"2023-08-28T20:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=568455"},"modified":"2023-08-28T13:00:43","modified_gmt":"2023-08-28T20:00:43","slug":"liberty-swimming-joins-atlantic-sun-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/liberty-swimming-joins-atlantic-sun-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Liberty Swimming Joins Atlantic Sun Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Liberty swimming &amp; diving team will compete in the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Conference for the 2023-24 Academic Year, as announced today by league officials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ASUN will sponsor swimming &amp; diving for the first time and will include Liberty, Bellarmine, Florida Gulf Coast, Gardner-Webb, North Florida, Queens and UNC Asheville. These seven teams represent the ASUN, Big South and Conference USA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lady Flames won each of the last five Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) titles before the CCSA ended its 16-year existence after the 2022-23 season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liberty had been a member of the CCSA since the program\u2019s inception in the 2010-11 academic year, winning six total titles, including the last five in a row.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In November of 2021, Liberty Athletics accepted an invitation to join Conference USA, starting with the 2023-24 athletics season. The announcement made Conference USA the new all-sport conference for 16 of Liberty\u2019s 20 NCAA Division I athletics programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conference USA does not sponsor the sports of men\u2019s soccer, women\u2019s lacrosse, field hockey or women\u2019s swimming &amp; diving.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liberty\u2019s field hockey program will continue as an associate member of the BIG EAST Conference, while women\u2019s lacrosse and women\u2019s swimming &amp; diving will compete in the ASUN and men\u2019 soccer will play in the Ohio Valley Conference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs a longstanding member of the CCSA, we are excited and grateful to continue our relationship with fellow members now under the banner of ASUN. With the addition of Queens and growth of other programs, ASUN swimming and diving will afford student-athletes an attractive and competitive championship experience.
