PHOENIX, Arizona, June 17. WE’RE about five weeks away from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, and an Englishman just made himself a serious medal contender in the sprint breaststroke events thanks to some impressive times on the Mare Nostrum circuit. <\/p>\n

<\/iframe> \nYouTube Measures Views Only For Episodes Watched On YouTube \nSubscribe to our YouTube channel, SwimmingWorldSPI<\/b><\/p>\nIn Barcelona, Adam Peaty swam a 59.25 in the 100 breast to move up to second in the world rankings … and second among swimmers from Commonwealth countries. It’s a major move up the world rankings for Peaty, who was making a name for himself this time last year at the junior level. As far as the Commonwealth Games goes, Christian Sprenger still stands as the man to beat, but Peaty gave notice to Cameron Van der Burgh, Ross Murdoch and Glenn Snyders that he’s going to be tough in Scotland next month.<\/p>\nWhat’s also notable about Peaty’s 59.25 is that it breaks the British record of 59.55 that had been held by Daniel Sliwinski since 2009. We all remember how we thought all of those rubber-suit records would stand for at least a decade, but as has been proven time and again, anything is possible if you work hard for it.<\/p>\nSo, congratulations, Adam.
