BARCELONA, Spain, June 13. THE third and final meet of the 2014 Mare Nostrum series begins tomorrow in Barcelona, and it’s shaping up to be just as exciting as the first two meets in Monaco and Canet as many of the top swimmers from both those meets will be in Spain to close out the series.<\/p>\n

Psych Sheet: Mare Nostrum – Barcelona<\/a><\/p>\n

Thursday’s final session in Canet featured a couple of top two performances for 2014 by Denmark’s Rikke Pedersen in the 200 breast (2:19.67) and Japan’s Daiya Seto in the 200 IM (1:57.32). Pedersen will not be in Barcelona to defend her title, but Seto will and will be joined by several Japanese teammates including Ryosuke Irie, Kanako Watanabe, Hiromasa Fukimori and others. Denmark’s Jeannette Ottesen, who set two national records in Canet in the women’s 50 free (24.40) and 100 fly (56.96), will try to lower those times even further and move up in the world rankings this weekend.<\/p>\n

Canet event winners Nathan Adrian, Camille Muffat and Cammile Adams, among others, will also continue on to Barcelona to wrap up the circuit. They’ll have plenty of competition from the likes of Jaz Carlin, Chad Le Clos, Hannah Miley, Francesca Halsall and many others. Host Spain will have a strong contingent at its home meet, as Mireia Belmonte, Melanie Costa Schmid, Rafael Munoz and Marina Garcia are all seeded high in multiple individual events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
