PHOENIX, Arizona, June 10. LAST week at the Monte Carlo stop of the Mare Nostrum circuit, Daiya Seto posted a 1:54.70 in the 200 butterfly to win the event and beat reigning Olympic and world champion Chad Le Clos by nearly two seconds. <\/p>\n

But Seto is showing some consistency in this event, and it spells good things for the Japanese 20-year-old, who won the 400 IM world championship title last year.<\/p>\nLast week\u2019s swim marked the third time Seto has posted a 200 fly in the 1:54-high range this year, and it was a lifetime best. It\u2019s 14 hundredths of a second slower than Le Clos\u2019 world-leading time, and Seto still has the Pan Pacific championships and Asian Games yet to come this year.<\/p>\nIt\u2019s interesting also to note that Seto did not swim the 200 fly at the world championships, though he ended 2013 as the ninth-fastest swimmer in the world. Now, he\u2019s looking to close out 2014 as the number one 200 flyer in the world, and last week\u2019s performance appears like that goal is achieveable.<\/p>\nSeto is not swimming the 200 fly in the second stop of Mare Nostrum in Canet this week, so we might not see another fast 200 fly from him during his European trip.
