PORTO, Portugal, June 7. BARBORA Zavadova of the Czech Republic won the women\u2019s 400 IM and 200 breast, setting a new meet record in the IM, during the first night of finals at the 31st<\/sup> International Meeting of Porto in Portugal tonight.<\/p>\n

Zavadova got the meet started in record-breaking fashion with a new meet record in the 400 IM. Zavadova completed the distance in 4:44.21 to lower Yana Klochkova\u2019s 4:47.89 from 1995. Portugal\u2019s Victoria Kaminskaya, who lowered the Portugal national record a week ago in Coimbra, finished second in 4:52.59. Brazil\u2019s Bruna Primati took third in 4:58.67.<\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s 1500 free, Vilcondense\u2019s Pedro Bessa turned in a commanding win, hitting the wall seven seconds in front of Portugal\u2019s Rafael Gil, 16:07.12 to 16:14.87. Gespacos\u2019 Hugo Ribeiro came in third at 16:16.51.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s 100 free crown went to Brazilian Jessica Cavalheiro in 57.59. She finished the race .99 ahead of India\u2019s Shivani Kataria, who touched in 58.58. Porto\u2019s Ana Rodrigues came in third at 58.91.<\/p>\n

Brazil kept the ball rolling as Luiz Melo captured the men\u2019s 200 free title with a 1:51.07. Famalicao\u2019s Luis Vaz led at the 150-meter mark before fading to second in 1:52.45. Sporting\u2019s Ricardo Cotovio came in third with a 1:54.40.<\/p>\n

Jan Kutil of the Czech Republic posted the fastest time in the men\u2019s 100 breast final with a 1:03.80. SF Olympique Courbevoie\u2019s Talel M\u2019Rabet touched second in 1:04.49, just .01 ahead of Brazil\u2019s Andreas Mickoz (1:04.50).<\/p>\n

Etiene Medeiros of Brazil dominated the women\u2019s 100 back final with a four-second victory. Medeiros stopped the clock in 1:03.13 to demolish the rest of the field and second place finisher Joana Silva of Lousada SXXXI (1:07.12). Ile de France Natation\u2019s Rim Quenniche swam a 1:08.38 for third.<\/p>\n

Vilacondense\u2019s Ana Monteiro and Brazil\u2019s Giovana Diamante treated the crowd to an exciting finish in the women\u2019s 200 fly, as Monteiro touched three tenths ahead, 2:15.12 to 2:15.45. Sporting\u2019s Sofia Branco finished well behind in third at 2:22.93.<\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s 100 fly, Nuno Quintanilha of Portugal topped the final heat in 55.49. Luiz Melo of Brazil wasn\u2019t far behind in 55.75, while India\u2019s Supriya Mondal finished third in 56.54.<\/p>\n

Viviane Jungblut of Brazil had the best time in the women\u2019s 400 free, a 4:19.98. Tamila Holub of Portgual finished less than a second behind in 4:20.78, while Bruna Primati of Brazil earned another top three finish with a 4:20.79.<\/p>\n

SF Olympique Courbevoie\u2019s Taki M\u2019Rabet claimed the men\u2019s 200 IM title in a 2:09.04, not far in front of Portugal\u2019s Nuno Quintanilha (2:10.39) and Ile de France Natation\u2019s Theo Berry (2:10.54).<\/p>\n

Barbora Zavadova of the Czech Republic picked up her second win of the night, this time in the women\u2019s 200 breast. She beat Portugal\u2019s Victoria Kaminskaya for the second straight event, but this time by a slimmer margin. Zavadova touched first in 2:34.04, followed by Kaminskaya in 2:34.09. Michaela Kadlecova of the Czech Republic came in third with a 2:42.60.<\/p>\n

Joao Vital of Portugal brought home the men\u2019s 200 back title with a 2:07.98, with Arvind Mani of India right on his heels in 2:08.29. Ricardo Cotovio of Sporting rounded out the top three in 2:12.44.<\/p>\n

In relay action, Porto\u2019s foursome of Marta Abreu, Sara Oliveira, Ana Rodrigues and Diana Duraes took home the 200 medley relay win in 2:00.26. Meanwhile, Joao Ascensao, Fabio Figueira, Gill Pinto and Carlos Santos topped the men\u2019s 200 free relay in 1:36.84.<\/p>\n

A couple of sprint finals closed out the night. Ana Carvalho (women\u2019s 50 breast, 33.78), Matheus Santana (men\u2019s 50 free, 23.67), Giovana Diamante (women\u2019s 50 fly, 27.55) and Rohit Imoliya (men\u2019s 50 back, 27.47) brought home individual sprint titles to close out night one.<\/p>\n
