OAKTON, Virginia, May 24. OLYMPIC gold medalist Katie Ledecky decided she could use a tune up this weekend, and entered the Virginia Long Course Championships being held in Oakton, Va.<\/p>\n
After swimming in a trio of events during prelims this morning, she focused on just one swim tonight \u2013 the women’s 200-meter fly. With just one swim on her agenda, she raced her way to a lifetime best as she clocked a 2:15.62 in the event. That’s much better than the 2:17.85 she posted at this event last year for NCAP. <\/p>\n
This morning, Ledecky checked in with a 2:18.40 in the 200 fly while also clocking a 26.37 in the 50-meter free and a 1:59.06 in the 200-meter free. She’s already clocked a fifth-ranked 1:56.30 in the 200-meter free at the Mesa stop of the Grand Prix, and didn’t need to put up a better time today. <\/p>\n
Her 50, on the other hand, also delivered another lifetime best. The world-record holder in the 800 and 1500 freestyle events doesn’t often get a chance to show off her sprinter speed. The time this morning beat her previous best of 27.52 from 2011. <\/p>\n
Not a bad way to take a bit of a victory lap after making her commitment to Stanford public a week ago. <\/p>\n
