KIM Kelly and Fran Crippen continued to pile up wins on the third day of competition at the Long Island Open, but it was 15 year-old Julia Smit, TVSC, who stole the show today.<\/p>\n<p>Unheralded, Smit threw down an outstanding 4:49.50 to win the women&#39;s 400m IM by over six seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Crippen, GAAC, notched his third and fourth wins of the meet with an easy victory in the 200 free (1:52.96) and a much tougher win in the 400 IM.  In both events, hometown hero Brendan Neligan was second.  In the medley, Crippen hung on to win in 4:31.32 to Neligan&#39;s 4:31.77.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly won her fourth event of the meet, coming from behind on the final lap of the 200 free to nip Kierst Kormowicz, 2:04.43 to 2:04.58.<\/p>\n<p>In other women&#39;s events: Thirteen year-old Katie Riefenstahl, the youngest swimmer in the field, took the 50 free in 26.98; fourth place went to 39 year-old Maria Doelger, 27.70.  Rebecca Soni was the winner of the 200 breast in 2:35.37.<\/p>\n<p>For the men, Mark Zucco, of Big Cat, was top dog in the men&#39;s 200 breast, clocking 2:25.36 to carve out a four-second victory.  In the 50 free, Matt Campbell nipped Chris Sullivan, 23.82 to 23.83.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NASSAU, New York, July 12.
