RIVERSIDE, California, May 17. AT the CIF Southern Section Championships tonight, St. Margarita’s Katie McLaughlin blasted her way to the national high school record in the girls 100-yard fly.<\/p>\n
McLaughlin chased down the record with a 51.78 (24.49, 27.29) as she had the pool nearly to herself. Hart’s Tamara Santoyo put up a second-place effort of 53.75 with McLaughlin well ahead for the national mark.<\/p>\n
The performance beat the national record of 51.92 set by Jasmine Tosky of Palo Alto High School during prelims in 2011, and the national independent record of 52.23 set by Punahou’s Jasmine Mau in Hawaii with a 52.23 in February of this year. Tosky’s time will remain as the public school standard.<\/p>\n
