CARLSBAD, California, May 15. A set of fires has ravaged the San Diego area in the past few days with one of the biggest fires being centered on the home of North Coast Aquatics \u2013 Carlsbad. The city has endure more than $20 million in damages with two dozen homes and several apartments already being destroyed.<\/p>\n
Luckily for North Coast Aquatics, so far, the team has dodged the brunt of the fires, even though the Poinsettia fire started on a hill behind the pool, according to head coach Jeff Pease.<\/p>\n
Someone was looking over North Coast, since the specific facility happens to be the Alga Norte Community Park location, which houses a 50-meter competition pool and a 12-lane 25-yard warm water teaching pool. This facility just opened in January after, what Pease describes as 30 years of hard work and sacrifice.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’ve been displaced for about 48 hours with practice canceled, but we should be back in the new facility by Saturday, knock on wood,\u201d Pease told Swimming World<\/i>.<\/p>\n
Pease went on to explain that NCA really proved to be fortunate as the fire jumped away from the pool and went south. If the winds had decided to go any other direction, there’s a good chance that 30 years of work might have gone up in smoke.<\/p>\n
Alga Norte has been a huge growth driver for NCA, according to Pease. Since opening, the club has grown to more than 600 members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
