ENGLAND&#8217;S team of 39 athletes named today for the Commonwealth Games is one of its strongest ever, with a talented group that could challenge Australia for the most medals in Glasglow, Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Among those on the list is Liam Tancock, who won the 50 and 100 backstrokes at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Tancock&#8217;s place on the roster is a surprise, given that he did not win either event at the British nationals. That meet served as the only qualifying meet for Team England, and despite not claiming a win or beating the qualifying time for team selection <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/World\/38757.asp target=\"_blank\">as previously reported<\/a>, Tancock will have the opportunity to defend his titles. The world record holder in the 50 back, Tancock used most of 2013 to repair shoulder issues, and has been in full training since January.<\/p>\n<p>Fran Halsall could be a multiple medalist in sprint events, and will face off against Australian superstar Cate Campbell in the 50 and 100 free. Halsall is also likely to swim the 50 and 100 butterfly. She was the 2010 Commonwealth champion in the 50 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Other names to watch include Roberto Pavoni and Siobhan Marie-O&#8217;Connor in the IM events, Adam Peaty in the breaststrokes, Lizzie Simmonds in the 200 back and Daniel Fogg in the 1500 free. Adam Brown and James Disney-May, both of whom train in the United States at Auburn University, got on the team as relay swimmers after not making the qualifying times in the 50 and 100 freestyles. England&#8217;s announcement did not indicate if Brown and\/or Disney-May will be allowed to swim individual events in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>England filled its maximum capacity of 36 swimmers for the meet, and added three disabled athletes to the roster for competition in disability events. Paralympic champion Oliver Hynd and IPC world champion Stephanie Slater are on the list, as is newcomer Thomas Hamer.
