JACKSONVILLE, Florida, April 28. THE first-place checks at the Jax 50 Sprint Challenge went to Josh Schneider and Madison Kennedy as the unique sprint-focused charity-based event had yet another successful year.<\/p>\n
Schneider beat Eric McGinnis in the men’s tournament final, 19.32 to 19.59, in the 50-yard free. That’s after having just competed in Mesa the night before.<\/p>\n
A handful of swimmers, including Schneider, made a coast-to-coast trip from the second night at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa, Ariz., to swimming the next night in Jacksonville, Fla., in what proved to be a grueling affair for some of the sprint demons taking part in the charity-based event.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Madison Kennedy topped the women’s tournament with a 21.92 to 22.07 triumph against Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace in the women’s 50-yard free.<\/p>\n
Schneider and Kennedy each pocketed a $2,500 check for the win, while second place ($1,500), third place ($750) and fourth place ($250) also earned money. Paul Murray beat Mark Weber for third place in the men’s race, 19.85 to 19.93, while Lara Jackson cleared Amanda Weir, 22.63 to 22.83, for the women’s third-place spot.<\/p>\n
The Jax50 started several years ago with top sprinters from around the world duking it out in a 50-yard freestyle tournament. The weekend also includes plenty of top age groups vying for the chance to swim against the pros in earlier heats of the sprint tourney.
