THE crowd at the Skyline Aquatics Center in Mesa, Ariz., helped push Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps through a thrilling race in the 100-meter butterfly Thursday night at the Arena Grand Prix, with Lochte digging deep to beat Phelps in the final championship race of the night.<\/p>\n<p><b>Race video, with post-race interview:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"470\" height=\"264\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jxzP8XTnOYM?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><i>Swimming World&#8217;s recap of the race:<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In a return of one of the top rivalries in the sport, Ryan Lochte of SwimMAC clipped NBAC&#8217;s Michael Phelps in the men&#8217;s 100-meter fly at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa.<\/p>\n<p>Lochte turned in a blistering time of 51.93 to move to second in the SwimVortex world rankings behind only Takuro Fujii at the Japanese Nationals in Tokyo. Phelps, meanwhile, demonstrated that his comeback is for real with a 52.13 for second tonight. That swim put him tied for fifth in the world with Steffen Deibler as the Greatest of All Time keeps on having fun.<\/p>\n<p>Palo Alto&#8217;s Jason Dunford (53.08), Terrapins&#8217; Justin Lynch (53.48), Azura&#8217;s Luis Martinez (53.66), Auburn&#8217;s Albert Subirats (53.71), Palo Alto&#8217;s Eugene Godsoe (53.78) and Queens&#8217; Matt Josa (54.22) rounded out the A final.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Shields of California won the B final in 53.33 with NYAC&#8217;s Arkady Vyatchanin finished second in 53.98.
