MICHAEL Andrew turned 15 years old last Friday, but he was still able to race as a 14-year-old at the NASA Showcase Classic in Clearwater, Florida, last week. Meet rules stipulate that because he was 14 years old on the first day of the meet, he would remain 14 years old for the whole meet, even on the last two days when he was technically 15. <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"470\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9C6AaDpRdpA?rel=0&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nNote: YouTube Measures Views Only For Episodes Watched On YouTube.com <\/p>\n<p>While Michael was still able to set records in the 13-14 age group last week, which he did, he already had his attention focused on the 15-16 national age group records. Many of them are quite tough, featuring names such as Caeleb Dressel, Ryan Murphy \u2026 and Michael Phelps. But one record seemed within reach in that age group, and Michael was able to surpass it on Friday. A 46.95 in the 100 fly broke his own 13-14 national age group record and was faster than the 15-16 national age group record of 46.99 swum by Alex Valente earlier this year. Michael will likely make that record his officially at his next short course yards meet to start what will likely be a barrage of records during his two years in that division.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, national age group records are set by those on the older end of the age spectrum, but Michael\u2019s performance last week shows we should expect big things in the next two years.
