CHARTRES, France, April 14. THE French swimming federation has named its team of 43 men and women who will compete in the European championships in August after a long course nationals that saw few break into the top 10 of the world rankings.<\/p>\n
Olympic champions Yannick Agnel, Florent Manaudou and Camille Muffat headline the roster. The powerful backstroke trio of Camille Lacourt, Jeremy Stravius and Eric Ress will also compete in Berlin this summer.<\/p>\n
France did not send a particularly strong team to the 2012 European championships, allowing many athletes to skip the meet to focus on the Olympic Games that year. The 2010 edition was largely successful for France, however. Lacourt swam what was then the second-fastest time in history in the 100 backstroke, while Agnel was showing his future potential with a gold in the 400 freestyle.<\/p>\n
In 2010, Muffat was making the transition from IM specialist to middle-distance freestyler, and while she\u2019ll still swim the 200 and 400 freestyles, she will also race the sprint freestyles and the 100 butterfly.<\/p>\n
France was the top team at the 2010 European championships with 21 medals, while they scored just 14 in 2012.<\/p>\n
