THE final day of the South African long course nationals did not feature Chad Le Clos as he celebrated his 22nd birthday, but an electric men\u2019s 50 free final capped off a great week of performances.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men 50 free final<\/b><br \/>\nSchoeman qualified for his fourth Commonwealth Games final in yesterday\u2019s semifinal with a 22.04, then did what was needed to win the national title with a 22.11. The bigger story of the race was the 22.22 by Brad Tandy to earn a spot on the Commonwealth Games team. Tandy, who tied for first two weeks ago at the NCAA championships in the 50 free, gained a place on his first international roster and put himself 12th in the world.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women 200 fly final<\/b><br \/>\nSouth Africa has much work to do in order to compete with the rest of the Commonwealth in the 200 fly, with winner Vanessa Mohr a full 10 seconds slower than the qualifying standard with a 2:19.50. Megan Stephens was also in the title hunt with a 2:19.68. Tarryn Els took third with a 2:20.28.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men 200 breast final<\/b><br \/>\nThough Cameron van der Burgh publicly announced his intentions to race the 200 breast internationally, particularly at the Olympics, he did not swim the race today. That left the door open for Jarred Crous to win the title with a 2:14.86, two seconds off the qualifying standard. Ayrton Sweeney was leading after 100 meters, fell off the pace at 150 meters but rallied to get a close second with a 2:14.95. Brenden Crawford also dipped under 2:20 with a 2:19.12.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women 400 IM final<\/b><br \/>\nRene Warnes was just about a second off the qualifying time of 4:44.53 needed to swim the 400 IM at the Commonwealth Games, posting a 4:45.72 for the win. Marlies Ross was a full 10 seconds behind with a 4:55.95, while Megan Van Wyk was third with a 4:59.83.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men 1500 free final<\/b><br \/>\nMyles Brown wasn\u2019t able to add the 1500 free to his Commonwealth Games schedule, winning the national title in 15:19.30 to fall five seconds off the qualifying standard. Troy Prinsloo, a former NCAA champion putting a focus on open water, was second with a 15:20.14 after making a strong push in the final 500 meters. Brent Szurdoki took third with a 15:44.16.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women 400 medley relay<\/b><br \/>\nNorthern Tigers finished the meet by winning both relays. The women\u2019s squad won by nearly 11 seconds with a 4:10.65, while the \u201cB\u201d team was second with a 4:21.07. Western Province rounded out the meet with a third-place time of 4:22.16.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men 400 medley relay<\/b><br \/>\nNorthern Tigers took the men\u2019s medley relay with a 3:41.19, just ahead of the 3:43.61 by KwaZulu Natal and the Northern Tigers B team with a 3:45.05.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/published\/12945.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Results For: South Africa nationals, day 6<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DURBAN, South Africa, April 12.
