World Championships: Chalmers, Guy, Hobson Among Additions to 800 Free Relay (Full Lineups)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The men’s 800 freestyle relay final will conclude night six of the World Championships, and the favorites have all made adjustments to their squads.\u00a0Great Britain is bringing in\u00a0James Guy<\/strong>, meaning the group will feature the same foursome that excelled on the way to Olympic gold two years ago, while the U.S. has three new swimmers and Australia inserts relay star\u00a0Kyle Chalmers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Britain, swimming in lane six, goes with a team of\u00a0Duncan Scott<\/strong>,\u00a0Matt Richards<\/strong>, Guy and\u00a0Tom Dean<\/strong>. Richards and Dean finished 1-2 in the 200 free earlier this meet while Dean and Scott were the 1-2 finishers at the Olympics. Guy was world champion in the 200 free back in 2015.<\/p>\n

The British are certainly favored for gold, but the reigning-world-champion American men will be one lane over with\u00a0Luke Hobson<\/strong>,\u00a0Carson Foster<\/strong>,\u00a0Jake Mitchell<\/strong> and\u00a0Kieran Smith<\/strong>, with Foster and Smith each returning off last year’s squad. Hobson was fifth in the 200 free earlier this meet while Mitchell was the lone carryover from prelims, where he did enough to merit inclusion on this relay over\u00a0Drew Kibler<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Australia is the top seed after prelims, and\u00a0Kai Taylor<\/strong> will lead off after blasting a 1:44.56 split in the morning. He will be followed by Chalmers, fresh off a world title in the 100 free, as well as\u00a0Alexander Graham<\/strong> and\u00a0Thomas Neill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Third-seeded Italy rolls out the same four men as this morning with\u00a0Marco de Tullio<\/strong>,\u00a0Filippo Megli<\/strong>,\u00a0Matteo Ciampi<\/strong> and\u00a0Stefano di Cola<\/strong> while\u00a0France adds\u00a0Leon Marchand<\/strong>, already the winner of three individual golds in Fukuoka, on the anchor leg of its fifth-seeded team. South Korea will be in the hunt here with 200 free silver medalist Hwang Sunwoo<\/strong> and fellow finalist\u00a0Kim Woomin<\/strong> swimming the first two legs.<\/p>\n
