Photo Courtesy: Delly Carr Swimming Australia<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And O&#8217;Callaghan becomes the third Australian alongside Rooney and the first winner, <strong>Hayley<\/strong> <strong>Lewis<\/strong>, from, lane eight in Perth in 1991 to win the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then there have been silvers to <strong>Kylie Palmer<\/strong> (2011), <strong>Emma McKeon,<\/strong> who dead-heated with <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> (2017) and Titmus and O\u2019Callaghan in 2019 and 2022.<\/p>\n<p>And the last Australian to hold the world record in the 200m freestyle was 70s golden girl <strong>Shane Glould,<\/strong> who won the event at the Munich Olympics in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight it was Mollie O who turned her silver into gold.
