GREENSBORO, North Carolina, April 3. SIX more national records \u2013 four on the women\u2019s side and two for the men \u2013 fell on the third of four nights of finals at YMCA Nationals at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Individually, Courtney Harnish highlighted the night with her third win of the meet, this time in the 500 free. In the team race, Middle Tyger led the way on the women\u2019s side with 370 points, followed by York (307) and Sarasota (267), while Wilton leads for the men with 283 ahead of Sarasota (199) and Triangle Area (198).<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 200 Medley Relay<\/b>
\nIn the third women\u2019s relay of the week Middle Tyger put up their third national record. The team of Ali Galyer, Savanna Faulconer, Jessi Snover, and Katrina Konopka put up a time of 1:41.29, taking a second off of the national record of 1:42.27 that York YMCA set last year. Sarasota grabbed second as the Sharks\u2019 team of Sophie Cattermole, Bethany Leap, Michelle Dols, and Madison Jean touched at 1:41.70. Upper Main Line\u2019s Emily Cornell, Emily Harris, Maddie Zimmerman, and Abby Mack grabbed third in 1:42.53.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 200 Medley Relay<\/b>
\nSomerset Valley held off Middle Tyger and Chesire for the win in the men\u2019s 200 medley relay. Brad Zdroik, Zach Warner, Joseph Delbuono, and Samuel Hendrix clocked 1:31.73, while Middle Tyger\u2019s men failed to complete the medley relay sweep. Brad Oberg, Nathan Delahunty, Jack Frazier, and Andrew Delahunty came in second 1:31.73, and Curtis Maher, Matthew Dagenais, Joseph Shepley, and Kyle Neri took third for Cheshire in 1:32.28.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 500 free<\/b>
\nIn the first individual event of day three York\u2019s Courtney Harnish became the first triple winner of the meet as she added the 500 free to her earlier crowns in the 1000 free and 400 IM. Harnish won by more than eight seconds and clocked 4:39.13, eclipsing the national record of 4:40.91 that Danielle Valley set last year. Sarasota\u2019s Sophie Cattermole grabbed second in 4:47.16, while York\u2019s 13 year old Leah Braswell touched out Kishwaukee\u2019s Caitlynn Moon for third, 4:47.45 to 4:47.49.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 500 free<\/b>
\nIan Rainey won the 1000 free on Tuesday and again proved superior in half the distance. Wilton\u2019s Rainey touched first in the 500 free in 4:25.85, more than a second ahead of Westport\/Weston\u2019s Jonathan Blansfield, who came in second in 4:27.05. Sarasota\u2019s Drew Clark earned third in 4:27.95.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 100 breast<\/b>
\nAfter two national records fell in the first two women\u2019s events, Western North Carolina\u2019s Alyssa Arwood missed another by just one one-hundredth of a second in the 100 breast. Arwood clocked 1:01.44, just off the 1:01.43 that Leah Pronschinske clocked in 2010. Sarasota\u2019s Bethany Leap finished second in 1:02.23, just ahead of the 1:02.36 of Triangle Area\u2019s Olivia Ontjes.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 100 breast<\/b>
\nThe first men\u2019s national record of the night came down in the men\u2019s 100 breast as Door County\u2019s Conner McHugh had enough to get under Christian Higgins\u2019 national record of 53.69. McHugh put up a 53.47 for that new record, while Somerset Valley\u2019s Zack Warner claimed second in 54.43. Springfield\u2019s Ryan Held came in third at 55.40.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 200 back<\/b>
\nIn a reverse finish of Wednesday\u2019s 100 back, York\u2019s Meghan Small got the better of Countryside\u2019s Emily Slabe in the 200 back and broke her own national record in the process. Small, who also won the 200 free on Wednesday, put up a 1:54.01, while Slabe\u2019s 1:54.64 also got under the 1:54.76 that Small set last year. Schroeder\u2019s Ashlyn Schoof, meanwhile, came in third at 1:55.54.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 200 back<\/b>
\nMiddle Tyger\u2019s Brad Oberg got the touch in an extremely tight finish in the men\u2019s 200 back. Oberg finished in 1:46.02, just two one-hundredths of a second ahead of Edwardsville\u2019s Sean Workman. Workman checked in at 1:46.04, while Schroeder\u2019s Nick Peterson wasn\u2019t far back, as he came in third at 1:46.53.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 800 free relay<\/b>
\nFor the fourth straight women\u2019s relay event a national record went down, but York, with a squad including two individual winners from the evening, got the better of Middle Tyger in the 800 free. Leah Braswell, Niki Price, Courtney Harnish, and Meghan Small clocked 7:10.38 for the win, crushing the national record of 7:14.17 they set last year. Katrina Konopka, Jessi Snover, Sydney Baker, and Meredith Whisenhunt picked up second for Middle Tyger in 7:15.80, while Sarasota\u2019s Sophie Cattermole, Spence Atkins, Bethany Leap, and Madison Jean clocked 7:21.01 for third.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 800 free relay<\/b>
\nNight three of four came to a close with yet another national record as Chris Kohut, Jonathan Glavich, Colin Ellington, and Noah Franz touched in 6:37.11 in the 800 free relay to clip the 6:37.17 their teammates set in 2011. Wilton finished second in 6:40.14 with Maxwell Dolan, Ian Rainey, Tommy Kealy, and Stephen Holmquist.
