In order to qualify as a Scholar All-American swimmers had to earn a 3.50 GPA or higher, with those on the First-Team having to compete in the NCAA Championships for their respective level. Swimmers who had the requisite GPA and earned at least one &#8220;B&#8221; cut qualified for the Second-Team.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, 2290 athletes were Scholar All-Americans. From Division 1, 1201 student-athletes received the recognition (721 women and 480 men). They were joined by 356 Division II athletes (194 women and 162 men), 561 from Division III (265 women and 296 men), 139 from NAIA (72 women and 67 men) and 33 from NJCAA (18 women and 15 men).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cscaa.org\/news\/2023spring\/saa\/individual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The full Scholar All-America list can be viewed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released by the CSCAA, Executive Director\u00a0<strong>Samantha Barany<\/strong> said, &#8220;More from Executive Director Barany: \u201cEarning a 3.5 GPA or higher is a remarkable accomplishment requiring dedication, discipline, and a commitment to academic excellence. Furthermore, competing at the national level is a testament to their talent, dedication, and perseverance in the water. \u00a0These student-athletes have set themselves apart from their peers by excelling in both areas, showing their exceptional abilities and drive for excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the year, the CSCAA releases monthly coaches&#8217; polls ranking women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s dual-meet abilities in all three divisions, and the organization also releases awards honoring top coaches and swimmers after the NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/virginia-leads-cscaa-awards-with-kate-douglass-todd-desorbo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This year in women&#8217;s Division I competition<\/a>, <strong>Kate Douglass\u00a0<\/strong>was the CSCAA Women\u2019s Swimmer of the Meet after winning three individual events, all in NCAA-record time, while<strong>\u00a0Todd DeSorbo<\/strong> was named women&#8217;s swim coach of the year after leading Virginia to a third consecutive national crown. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cscaa-awards-dave-durden-leon-marchand-lyle-yost-drew-johansen-honored-all-american-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On the men&#8217;s side<\/a>, <strong>Leon Marchand<\/strong> was swimmer of the meet for his three record-breaking wins while\u00a0<strong>Dave Durden<\/strong> was coach of the meet after leading the Cal men to the national title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CSCAA Releases Scholar All-American List of 2290 Athletes The College Swimming &amp;
