{"id":531764,"date":"2023-07-04T21:14:35","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T04:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=531764"},"modified":"2023-07-05T06:15:37","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T13:15:37","slug":"indianas-noelle-peplowski-andrew-capobianco-among-big-ten-medal-of-honor-recipients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/indianas-noelle-peplowski-andrew-capobianco-among-big-ten-medal-of-honor-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"Indiana\u2019s Noelle Peplowski, Andrew Capobianco among Big Ten Medal of Honor Recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Indiana\u2019s Noelle Peplowski, Andrew Capobianco among Big Ten Medal of Honor Recipients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indiana\u2019s <strong>Noelle Peplowski<\/strong> and <strong>Andrew Capobianco<\/strong> were the school\u2019s female and male recipients of the Big Ten Medal of Honor, announced last week.<\/p>\n<p>They were joined by Purdue\u2019s <strong>Maycey Vieta<\/strong> as aquatics recipients of the award, with one male and one female nominated by each member school.<\/p>\n<p>The Big Ten Medal of Honor is annually, \u201cawarded to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution who has demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their college career.\u201d The award was inaugurated in 1915. This is the 109th class of honorees.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s 28 recipients represent 12 different sports. The <a href=\"https:\/\/bigten.org\/news\/2023\/6\/28\/general-big-ten-conference-highlights-109th-big-ten-medal-of-honor-class.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full list is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Peplowski was an 11-time All-American in Bloomington. She finished fifth at NCAAs in the women\u2019s 200 breast last year after winning a Big Ten title, and she was part of the Hoosiers squad that won the Big Ten crown as a freshman in 2019. She graduated with a degree in sports marketing and management and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/indiana-hires-recent-grad-noelle-peplowski-as-assistant-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has been hired as an assistant coach<\/a> by head coach <strong>Ray Looze<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Peplowski qualified for the U.S. team for this summer\u2019s World Aquatics Championships in the 800 free relay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-katie-ledecky-drops-200-freestyle-from-world-championships-program-bella-sims-gets-solo-nod\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last week at Phillips 66 Nationals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Capobianco is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-mens-championships-andrew-capobianco-wins-third-title-on-3-meter-diving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three-time NCAA champion<\/a> on 3-meter. A 12-time All-American, he has five career NCAA medals and is a five-time individual Big Ten champion (and a four-time team champion). Capobianco won a silver medal in the men\u2019s 3-meter synchro at the Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Vieta won the Big Ten title in platform diving champion at Big Tens as a senior and garnered her third career All-American honor.
