She\u2019s within shouting distance of the U.S. Open record set in 2019 by <strong>Pernille Blume<\/strong> at 24.08.<\/p>\n<p>Weitzeil was clearly ahead of the field. <strong>Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> turned in the second-best time in 24.53. Her former UVA teammate <strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong> was third in 24.57, with her NYAC mate <strong>Catie DeLoof<\/strong> fourth in 24.71.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2023-us-national-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Page<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2023\/phillips-66-national-championships-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Erika Brown, Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> and <strong>Gabi Albiero <\/strong>all cracked 25 seconds to make the A final. <strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> scraped into the last spot in 25.02. That leaves <strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> on the outside looking in, having tied <strong>Grace Cooper<\/strong> for ninth in 25.13.<\/p>\n<p>On the meet\u2019s opening day, Weitzeil had set the pace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-abbey-weitzeil-kate-douglass-break-53-in-100-free-prelims-fast-field-eliminates-numerous-big-names\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in prelims of the 100 free<\/a> with a time of 52.92, .06 up on Douglass. Douglass, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-nationals-kate-douglass-sprints-past-abbey-weitzeil-in-womens-100-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rallied in the final<\/a> with a torrid final 50 to get her by .54 seconds, Weitzeil getting the second individual spot. Walsh, Smoliga and Huske followed, all secure in their Worlds spots for the relays.<\/p>\n<p>Weitzeil is looking to return to the international stage after not being a part of last year\u2019s World Championship team. The four-time Olympic medalist has four all-time medals at Worlds, all in relays. She won bronze in the 100 free at Short-Course Worlds in 2021.
