U.S. Nationals: Regan Smith Going for Third Win on Night Four (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fourth evening of finals at U.S. Nationals will include the 400 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. The session begins at 7 p.m. ET in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

The session will open with the women’s 400 free, and\u00a0Katie Ledecky<\/strong> will be in lane four looking for her second win of the meet after qualifying first in prelims by almost five seconds at 4:01.88.\u00a0Claire Weinstein<\/strong>, who edged Ledecky in the 200 free, will be in lane five while last year’s Worlds bronze medalist,\u00a0Leah Smith<\/strong>, holds down lane four. The final also includes\u00a0Erin Gemmell<\/strong> and\u00a0Bella Sims<\/strong>, qualified for Fukuoka on the 800 free relay. Notably,\u00a0Katie Grimes<\/strong> has scratched the B-final after placing 10th in prelims.<\/p>\n

Ross Dant<\/strong> and\u00a0Kieran Smith<\/strong> will be in the middle lanes in the men’s 400 free final, and they are likely the favorites. Teenager\u00a0Rex Maurer\u00a0<\/strong>is in lane three while Olympic finalist\u00a0Jake Mitchell<\/strong>, already qualified for the team in the 800 free relay, is in lane one after he tied for sixth in prelims.<\/p>\n

The race between\u00a0Lydia Jacoby<\/strong> and\u00a0Lilly King<\/strong> in the women’s 100 breast has a potential spoiler in between after\u00a0Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> qualified first in prelims. On the men’s side,\u00a0Nic Fink<\/strong> is in lane four with the three men who beat him in the 200 breast,\u00a0Matt Fallon<\/strong>,\u00a0Josh Matheny<\/strong> and\u00a0Jake Foster<\/strong> all in central lanes.<\/p>\n

Regan Smith<\/strong> is the big favorite in the women’s 100 backstroke, and she could take aim at her American record of 57.57 or even\u00a0Kaylee McKeown’s<\/strong> world record of 57.45. Nine swimmers broke 1:00 this morning, with one of them (Amy Fulmer<\/strong>) relegated to the B-final.\u00a0Katharine Berkoff<\/strong>, the 50 back winner, will be in lane five, while 2022 Worlds bronze medalist\u00a0Claire Curzan<\/strong>, swimming in lane six, is still looking to get on the Worlds team.<\/p>\n

The last A-final of the night is the men’s 100 back, with American-record holder\u00a0Ryan Murphy<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in lane four surrounded by\u00a0Hunter Armstrong<\/strong>,\u00a0Destin Lasco<\/strong> and\u00a0Justin Ress<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
