The swim is being organized by URBANSWIM.<\/p>\n<p>Among those accompanying Harris on the swim is three-time American Olympian <strong>Anthony Ervin<\/strong>, three-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marathon-swimming-a-look-at-some-of-the-great-streaks-and-crossing-records-in-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guinness World Record Holder<\/a> <strong>Jaimie Monahan<\/strong> and + Pool board member <strong>Fleur Sohtz.<\/strong> (Monahan has achieved the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaimiemonahan.com\/marathonswims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manhattan circumnavigation a number of times<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this swim, I aim to spotlight these organizations\u2019 causes and honor my family\u2019s connection to Haiti and my adopted home, New York,\u201d Harris said <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/epic-28-5-mile-swim-130100686.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release.<\/a> \u201cI\u2019ve had the privilege of being surrounded by incredible coaches, teammates, and mentors throughout my life. I hope to demonstrate that success is a collaborative effort, relying on the support and contributions of others. By raising awareness and supporting these charities, we can help transform the lives of those who need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harris swam at Columbia University in the 1990s. His mother was born in Haiti, and he has long used sports as a way to pursue social change.<\/p>\n<p>+ Pool is a non-profit organization that aims to provide access to open-water swimming opportunities in New York City. Have Faith Haiti was founded by author <strong>Mitch Albom<\/strong> and based in Port-au-Prince, providing nourishment and education for children and orphans. The Worldwide Orphans Foundation provides education and \u201ctrauma-informed, play-based programs in vulnerable communities\u201d in communities on four continents, with an office in New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am excited to collaborate with Chris and use our athletic platform for good, raising awareness about clean water access, orphan care, and youth development through this monumental swim,\u201d Ervin said. \u201cWe believe that united, we can make a difference.
