U.S. Nationals: Women’s 200 IM Showdown Highlights Final Day (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final morning of preliminary action at U.S. Nationals will include the 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle, with the remaining distance races (women’s 1500 freestyle and men’s 800 freestyle) set to be contested in the afternoon and evening. The session begins at 10 a.m. ET in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

The women’s 200 IM has been considered one of the strongest events of the meet, with world champion\u00a0Alex Walsh<\/strong> leading the way. Walsh has already been the runnerup in the 400 IM this week in Indy. Leah Hayes<\/strong>, the teenager who won bronze in the 200 IM at Worlds last year, will race in another circle-seeded heat alongside Kate Douglass<\/strong>, the Olympic bronze medalist and fastest swimmer ever in the 200-yard IM.\u00a0Regan Smith<\/strong> is seeded second in the event, but she is expected to skip the race after qualifying for Worlds in three other races.<\/p>\n

It has been a tough week for\u00a0Shaine Casas<\/strong>, but he has one last chance to get onto the team in the 200 IM, where he is the top seed.\u00a0Carson Foster<\/strong> and\u00a0Chase Kalisz<\/strong> will swim in lane four in the other circle-seeded heats, with\u00a0Destin Lasco<\/strong>, one of the week’s breakout performers, swimming next to Foster.<\/p>\n

Expect an exciting race in the women’s 50 free, where\u00a0Erika Brown<\/strong> is the top seed and joined by\u00a0Claire Curzan<\/strong> in the final heat. Neither has qualified for Fukuoka yet. Douglass and\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> race in the first circle-seeded heat, followed by Abbey Weitzeil <\/b>and\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The men’s 50 free top seed is\u00a0Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>. He has improved with each swim this week, and the 50 is his last chance to get onto the Worlds team in his comeback meet.\u00a0Michael Andrew<\/strong> is the second seed, with\u00a0David Curtiss<\/strong>,\u00a0Matt King<\/strong>,\u00a0Ryan Held<\/strong>,\u00a0Brooks Curry<\/strong> and\u00a0Jack Alexy<\/strong> all in contention.<\/p>\n
