U.S. Nationals: Tuesday Morning Session Includes 200 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle (Heat Sheet)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The five-day all-important selection meet that will determine the American team for this year’s World Championships begins Tuesday morning in Indianapolis. The first session of U.S. Nationals gets underway at 10 a.m. ET with prelims of the women’s and men’s 200 butterfly and 100 freestyle.<\/p>\n

The top seed in the women’s 200 fly is Regan Smith<\/strong>, who broke a 14-year-old American record in the event earlier this month. Smith will race in the final heat of the event with Arizona State training partner\u00a0Lindsay Looney<\/strong> and 200-yard fly NCAA champion\u00a0Emma Sticklen<\/strong> on either side of her. Hali Flickinger<\/strong>, another Arizona State-trained swimmer who was the World Championships silver medalist last year, is in the second-to-last heat, while the Texas duo of\u00a0Dakota Luther<\/strong> and\u00a0Kelly Pash<\/strong> headline the first circle-seeded heat.<\/p>\n

Six heats of the men’s 200 fly will see\u00a0Gabriel Jett<\/strong>,\u00a0Trenton Julian<\/strong> and\u00a0Carson Foster<\/strong> each leading the way in a seeded heat, with Foster swimming next to Olympian\u00a0Zach Harting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Prelims will be extremely consequential in the 100 free with no semifinals at this year’s selection meet and six of the eight finalists likely to earn spots at the World Championships for relay duty.\u00a0Natalie Hinds<\/strong> and\u00a0Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> are at the center of heat seven, followed by\u00a0Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> and\u00a0Erika Brown<\/strong> in heat eight and Kate Douglass<\/strong>,\u00a0Torri Huske<\/strong> and\u00a0Claire Curzan<\/strong> in heat nine.<\/p>\n

Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> will make his Nationals debut in the 100 free, swimming between\u00a0Matt King<\/strong> and\u00a0Shaine Casas<\/strong> in the final heat. Ryan Held<\/strong> and\u00a0Brooks Curry<\/strong> will each race in lane four in their respective heats.<\/p>\n

The Tuesday slate of events also includes the women’s 800 free and men’s 1500 free. Early heats of those races will be contested Tuesday afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m., and the fastest heats will take place during the finals session.<\/p>\n
