{"id":529731,"date":"2023-06-16T08:51:39","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T15:51:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=529731"},"modified":"2023-06-16T08:51:39","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T15:51:39","slug":"dartmouth-hires-freya-rayner-as-assistant-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/dartmouth-hires-freya-rayner-as-assistant-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Dartmouth Hires Freya Rayner as Assistant Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Dartmouth Hires Freya Rayner as Assistant Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dartmouth has hired <strong>Freya Rayner<\/strong> as an assistant coach to the men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving programs.<\/p>\n<p>The school announced on Friday that Rayner would be joining the staff of head coach <strong>Milana Socha.<\/strong> Rayner spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant for the women\u2019s team at Arkon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Freya set herself apart in the application process with her intelligence, passion, and understanding of the elements it takes to be a great coach,&#8221; Socha said <a href=\"https:\/\/dartmouthsports.com\/news\/2023\/6\/15\/swimdive-freya-rayner-hired-as-mens-and-womens-swimming-and-diving-assistant-coach-230615.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a university release<\/a>. &#8220;She will have a positive impact on our student-athletes&#8217; abilities to reach their potential in the pool while creating meaningful relationships and helping them grow as people. Her competitive drive will be an asset as our team continues to build and her attention to detail and organization will help our staff manage the program at an elite level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rayner helped Akron win back-to-back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/paulina-nogaj-wins-three-events-as-akron-dominates-womens-mac-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MAC titles<\/a>. She led swimmers who collected two All-America honors, set three conference records and eight programs records. The Zips won 12 individual and 10 relay MAC titles in the last two years, earning the MAC Swimmer of the Year and MAC Coach of the Year for <strong>Brian Peresie<\/strong> both years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am deeply grateful to Milana for placing her trust in me and to the rest of the coaching staff for being so welcoming,&#8221; Rayner said. &#8220;It is a tremendous honor to work with athletes who embody exceptional academic achievements and great athletic prowess. I am thrilled about the prospects of advancing the team&#8217;s success as we move forward together. Go Big Green!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rayner graduated from Ohio State in 2021. She was a nine-time CSCAA All-American, including four times as part of the Buckeyes&#8217; 200 free relays. She helped Ohio State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2021-big-ten-womens-championship-day-2-finals-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">win Big Ten titles<\/a> in 2020 and 2021 and was part of five Big Ten winning relays.<\/p>\n<p>Rayner qualified for NCAAs all four years at Ohio State. She was third in the 50 free as a sophomore and Big Tens.
