The Schoenfield Award is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the promotion of aquatic sports through journalism.<\/p>\n<p>Lohn first started covering the sport of swimming in the late 1990s, when he served as a correspondent for the Delaware County Daily Times in suburban Philadelphia. While covering high school swimming, Lohn crossed paths with Brendan Hansen, a rising star on the national stage who would go on to capture six medals across three Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>While covering Hansen\u2019s career, Lohn pitched a feature story to Swimming World, which eventually gave him the opportunity to write for the magazine. That partnership has endured for more than 20 years, with Lohn serving in various roles \u2013 newsmaster, senior writer, associate editor and editor-in-chief.<\/p>\n<p>Lohn has covered the sport on a global basis, including trips to the past four Olympic Games, six United States Olympic Trials, the World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, U.S. Nationals and the NCAA Championships. Through the years, his work has been cited by CNN, the Washington Post, USA Today and media outlets in Europe, Japan, China, Brazil, and Australia. He has also appeared as a guest on ESPN and the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his duties with Swimming World, Lohn has <a href=\"https:\/\/rowman.com\/Action\/Search\/_\/John%20Lohn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authored five books<\/a> on the sport, including 2021\u2019s Below the Surface, a 2021 publication which examines the history and top moments in the sport. His other books are: The 100 Greatest Swimmers in History (2018); The Most Memorable Moments in Olympic Swimming (2014); They Ruled the Pool: The 100 Greatest Swimmers in History (2013); The
