{"id":529275,"date":"2023-06-08T12:59:20","date_gmt":"2023-06-08T19:59:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=529275"},"modified":"2023-06-08T12:59:20","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T19:59:20","slug":"deaf-world-record-holder-carli-cronk-verbally-commits-to-notre-dame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/deaf-world-record-holder-carli-cronk-verbally-commits-to-notre-dame\/","title":{"rendered":"Deaf World Record Holder Carli Cronk Verbally Commits to Notre Dame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>The University of Notre Dame has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season and beyond from San Antonio, Texas, native <strong>Carli Cronk<\/strong>, a member of the USA Deaf Swimming National Team.<\/p>\n<p>She will join\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/british-national-junior-team-member-hollie-widdows-pledges-to-notre-dame\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hollie Widdows<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/six-time-tapps-state-champion-emily-kitayama-verbals-to-notre-dame\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emily Kitayama<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>as a member of the Fighting Irish\u2019s Class of 2028.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Cronk was awarded the Trsicha L. Zorn Award by USA Swimming for the most outstanding performance by a disabled swimmer. She was also tabbed the 2022 Sportswoman of the Year by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.<\/p>\n<p>Her best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 free \u2013 1:47.82<\/li>\n<li>500 free \u2013 4:51.71<\/li>\n<li>1650 free \u2013 16:33.09<\/li>\n<li>100 back \u2013 56.77R<\/li>\n<li>200 back \u2013 2:00.05<\/li>\n<li>200 fly \u2013 1:58.42<\/li>\n<li>400 IM \u2013 4:16.00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cronk is the deaf world record holder in the 200m fly, 400m IM and 1500m free. At the 2022 Deaflympics in Brazil, she earned 12 gold medals en route to becoming the most decorated athlete in a single Deaflympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Training year-round with Alamo Area Aquatic Association, Cronk is a Junior National qualifier who finished eighth in the 400 IM at the 2021 Juniors West Championships, also taking 17th in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Currently a junior at Winston Churchill High School, Cronk raced to second in the 200 free and sixth in the 500 free at the 2023 UIL 6A State Championships. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 2019 with a degree in Public Communication and a double minor in Coaching and Sports Management.
