{"id":529004,"date":"2023-05-29T14:53:56","date_gmt":"2023-05-29T21:53:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=529004"},"modified":"2023-05-29T14:53:56","modified_gmt":"2023-05-29T21:53:56","slug":"gabrielle-rose-crushes-45-49-masters-world-records-at-grand-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/gabrielle-rose-crushes-45-49-masters-world-records-at-grand-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Gabrielle Rose Crushes 45-49 Masters World Records at Grand Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Gabrielle Rose Crushes 45-49 Masters World Records at Grand Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After lowering six USMS records at last month&#8217;s U.S. Masters Swimming Spring Nationals,\u00a0<strong>Gabrielle Rose<\/strong> returned to the same Irvine, Calif., facility this weekend for the Speedo Grand Challenge and swam much faster than two masters world records in the women&#8217;s 45-49 age group.<\/p>\n<p>In the 100 breaststroke Friday, Rose swam a time of 1:11.85 in prelims to beat her previous masters world record of 1:12.34 set last August. In the final tat evening, she finished in 1:11.68 to lower the record further while finishing second behind\u00a0<strong>Isabelle Odgers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Rose returned Sunday for the 200 breaststroke and swam a mark of 2:35.09 in prelims, obliterating the masters world record of 2:43.73 set by South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Heather Morris-Eyton<\/strong> in 2013. Rose also beat\u00a0<strong>Caroline Krattli&#8217;s<\/strong> USMS record of 2:45.20 from 2007. In the final, the 45-year-old went even faster, with her final time of 2:32.86 leaving her 10 seconds under the existing world record.<\/p>\n<p>The times should count as USMS records, but it is likely that the world records will not be ratified by World Aquatics since the Grand Challenge was only a USA Swimming-sanctioned competition rather than a dual-sanctioned USA Swimming\/USMS event (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usms.org\/-\/media\/usms\/pdfs\/guide%20to%20operations%20-%20gto\/top%2010%20and%20rec%20and%20tab\/gto_rectab_general.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more info here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Rose, 45, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympian-gabrielle-rose-breaks-five-masters-records-in-triumphant-and-healing-return-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was a member of Brazil&#8217;s Olympic team at the 1996 Olympics before representing the United States four years later in Sydney<\/a>, where she finished seventh in the 200 IM. Rose later won World Championships gold medals as a prelims relay swimmer in the 400 free relay and 800 free relay at the 2003 World Championships, and in 2002, she won a trio of silver medals at the Short Course World Championships plus Pan Pacs silver in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>In other results from the Grand Challenge, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-grimes-sandpipers-post-impressive-weekend-at-grand-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sandpipers of Nevada swimmers\u00a0<strong>Katie Grimes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Bella Sims<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Claire Weinstein<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Ilya Kharun<\/strong> each performed well as they continued
