{"id":528697,"date":"2023-05-19T19:54:53","date_gmt":"2023-05-20T02:54:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=528697"},"modified":"2023-05-19T19:54:53","modified_gmt":"2023-05-20T02:54:53","slug":"olympic-medalists-jessica-parratto-delaney-schnell-win-at-usa-diving-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympic-medalists-jessica-parratto-delaney-schnell-win-at-usa-diving-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympic Medalists Jessica Parratto, Delaney Schnell Win at USA Diving Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Olympic Medalists Jessica Parratto, Delaney Schnell Win at USA Diving Nationals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two summers ago, <strong>Jessica Parratto<\/strong> and <strong>Delaney Schnell<\/strong> teamed to win <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympics-jessica-parratto-delaney-schnell-capture-silver-for-u-s-in-10-meter-synchro-diving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a historic silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics<\/a> in women\u2019s platform synchro.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, they added a national title to their heap of trophies.<\/p>\n<p>Schnell and Parratto joined forces to win the 10-meter title at 2023 USA Diving Nationals in Morgantown, West Virginia. It books a place at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka and a first chances to qualify for the Paris Olympics in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Schnell and Parratto posted a score of 575.16 points at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. That easily bested the only other squad in the competition, <strong>Katrina Young<\/strong> and <strong>Nike Agunbiade.<\/strong> That pair scored 528.00.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/max-weinrich-kaylee-bishop-start-2023-usa-diving-nationals-with-platform-synchro-crown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Max Weinrich, Kaylee Bishop Start 2023 USA Diving Nationals with Platform Synchro Crown<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Parratto is back on platform after a hiatus. She took time off after the Tokyo Games, her second Olympics, and competed in the non-Olympic 1-meter event at Winter Nationals before deciding she wanted to reunite with Schnell. They competed at the FINA World Cup stop in Montreal earlier this spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came out to test out the waters and had lots of conversations with Delaney,\u201d Parratto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamusa.org\/USA-Diving\/News\/2023\/May\/18\/Parratto-Schnell-Downs-Duncan-Win-Synchro-Titles-at-Nationals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told USA Diving<\/a>. \u201cI was back on 10-meter by late February or early March, so it hasn\u2019t been a long time. There\u2019s still a lot to work on but I\u2019m happy with the progress I\u2019ve made in such a short time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schnell just wrapped up her career at the University of Arizona with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-womens-championships-delaney-schnell-gets-platform-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a long-awaited NCAA title on platform<\/a>. She won a pair of medals in synchro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-delaney-schnell-earns-pair-of-synchro-diving-medals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at Worlds last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, we\u2019re just trying to get back into it and try to get back to where we were in Tokyo,\u201d Schnell said. \u201cI feel like Montreal was a good stepping stone, just to see where we were at and try to get a competition under Jess\u2019s belt because it had been awhile for her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other event on the second night of the eight-day meet was the men\u2019s 3-meter synchro, which went to <strong>Tyler Downs<\/strong> and <strong>Greg Duncan.<\/strong> The Purdue duo (Duncan also reps RipFest) routed the competition, scoring 812.28 points. That was more than 100 clear of the runners-up, <strong>Nick Harris<\/strong> of Texas and <strong>Max Fowler.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought we came out and executed the majority of the meet,\u201d Duncan said. \u201cThere are definitely some points that we left on the table, but our goal was to come in and qualify (for worlds) and that\u2019s what we did.
