{"id":528346,"date":"2023-05-11T09:49:58","date_gmt":"2023-05-11T16:49:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=528346"},"modified":"2023-05-11T09:49:58","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T16:49:58","slug":"canada-has-strong-showing-at-montreal-world-cup-diving-stop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/canada-has-strong-showing-at-montreal-world-cup-diving-stop\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Has Strong Showing at Montreal World Cup Diving Stop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Canada Has Strong Showing at Montreal World Cup Diving Stop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Canada showed well at the second World Aquatics World Cup Diving Stop in Montreal last weekend, winning four medals, including silver in the team competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pamela Ware<\/strong> led the way with silver in the women\u2019s 3-meter diving and bronze in 3-meter synchro paired with <strong>Mia Vallee.<\/strong> Ware, <strong>Caeli McKay, Bryden Hattie<\/strong> and <strong>Nathan Zsombor-Murray<\/strong> combined for team silver.<\/p>\n<p>Zsombor-Murray was part of arguably the event of the meet, the men\u2019s 10M, in which three divers top 500 points. He ended up third in a tight battle with Japan\u2019s <strong>Rikuto Tamai,<\/strong> who edged him by less than six points. Like the other eight events of the weekend, it was won by China, <strong>Yang Hao<\/strong> scoring 580.25 points.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/china-dominates-first-fina-diving-world-cup-stop-in-xian-with-sweep-of-golds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China Dominates First FINA Diving World Cup Stop in Xi\u2019an with Sweep of Golds<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaquatics.com\/competitions\/3268\/world-aquatics-diving-world-cup-2023\/results?event=05f3bef1-fa80-4f1b-9232-5762f561fa5e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>China won nine gold medals but wasn\u2019t as dominant as at other stops. Only one event resulted in a Chinese 1-2, with <strong>Quan Hongchan<\/strong> (458.20 points) leading <strong>Chen Yuxi<\/strong> (438.90) in the 10-meter platform event. Chen was the only minor medal won by the Chinese delegation.<\/p>\n<p>Hongchan and Yuxi easily won platform synchro on the women\u2019s side. <strong>Chen Yiwen,<\/strong> the 3-meter women\u2019s champ, teamed with <strong>Chang Yani<\/strong> to win a surprisingly close synchro gold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wang Zhongyuan<\/strong> and Yang each won two men\u2019s gold medals. Wang scored 556.75 to win 3-meter by 91.50 points, then joined <strong>Long Daoyi<\/strong> to dominate synchro. Yang emerged in men\u2019s platform and joined <strong>Lian Junjie<\/strong> for synchro gold. China won the team event with Chen Yiwen, Wang, Chen Yuxi and Yang scoring 489.25 to best the Canadians by 34 points.<\/p>\n<p>The United States returned with a pair of medals on the women\u2019s side. Sarah Bacon scored 357.85 points on 3-meter springboard to edge <strong>Chang Yani<\/strong> for bronze. She was 46 points behind Chen Yiwen and seven behind Ware. (American <strong>Hailey Hernandez<\/strong> was sixth in the event.) Bacon teamed with <strong>Kassidy Cook<\/strong> to finish second in synchro, scoring 315.08 to put a scare into the leading Chinese duo, just 14 points back.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain took home three synchro medals.
