Cutino Award, <a href=\"https:\/\/usawaterpolo.org\/news\/2023\/5\/4\/general-the-olympic-club-announces-mens-cutino-award-finalists-womens-finalists-to-come-following-season.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was named Monday<\/a> as a finalist for the third straight year. Joining the University of California junior are USC\u2019s <strong>Jake Ehrhardt<\/strong> and <strong>Reuel D\u2019Souza<\/strong> of Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>The Cutino Award is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olyclub.com\/cutino-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">given annually since 1999<\/a> to the top men\u2019s and women\u2019s collegiate water polo players in the nation. Sponsored by the Olympic Club in San Francisco, it will bestow the 2023 awards on June 3. Women\u2019s nominees will be released following the conclusion of that NCAA season.<\/p>\n<p>Papanikolaou <a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/news\/2023\/5\/8\/mens-water-polo-papanikolaou-announced-as-3-time-cutino-award-finalist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">led Cal<\/a> to its third straight national title. He was the Golden Bears\u2019 top scorer this season with 62 goals over 25 games, leading them to a 23-2 record. The two-time ACWPC Player of the Year led them to their 16th national title as well as the MPSF regular-season crown. He scored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nikolaos-papanikolaous-7-goals-help-cal-stun-usc-in-ncaa-mens-water-polo-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seven goals in the final<\/a>, a 13-12 win over USC. The native of Athens, Greece, was the fourth Golden Bear to win the Cutino Award. The last man to win consecutive awards was Stanford\u2019s <strong>Ben Hallock<\/strong> in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ehrhardt is <a href=\"https:\/\/usctrojans.com\/news\/2023\/5\/8\/mens-water-polo-usc-mens-water-polos-jake-ehrhardt-earns-first-selection-as-peter-j-cutino-award-finalist.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the 16th USC player<\/a> to be nominated for the award and is looking to be the first USC man to win the award since McQuin Baron in 2016. Ehrhardt led the Trojans to the NCAA final, losing that heartbreaker to Cal. He scored 55 goals, including 19 multiple-goal games. The fifth-year senior tallied 179 career goals, sixth in program history. Ehrhardt helped USC tally a 20-7 record, including the MPSF Tournament championship.<\/p>\n<p>D&#8217;Sousa, a sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/pacifictigers.com\/news\/2023\/5\/8\/mens-water-polo-reuel-d-souza-named-peter-j-cutino-award-finalist.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">from British Columbia<\/a>, adds to the international flair of the finalists. He scored an even 100 points \u2013 54 goals, 46 assists \u2013 to lead the Golden Coast Conference. An All-American this year, he was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. He\u2019s the seventh Tiger named a finalist, all occurring since 2010.
