Chen Juner Breaks Longstanding Chinese Record in 200 Butterfly; Pan Zhanle Continues to Shine at Nationals<\/strong><\/p>\n

An impressive week of performances at the Chinese National Championships wrapped up on Saturday with additional top-tier times, including an Asian record in the men\u2019s 50-meter breaststroke and a national mark in the men\u2019s 200 butterfly. More, Li Bingjie<\/strong> added another freestyle title to her growing collection of victories.<\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s 50 breaststroke, Sun Jiajun<\/strong> surged through his lap of the pool in 26.61. That time was good for an Asian record and handed Sun a narrow win over Qin Haiyang<\/strong>, who touched the wall in 26.72. Qin was searching for a sweep of the breaststroke events after previously winning the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke, the shorter distance in Asian-record time.<\/p>\n

A Chinese record was supplied by Chen Juner<\/strong> in the 200 butterfly, as he took down the longstanding mark of Wu Peng<\/strong>. Chen delivered a time of 1:54.16, which clipped the 2008 record of Wu (1:54.35), which was set at the Beijing Olympics. The effort by Chen handed him a comfortable victory over Niu Guangsheng<\/strong>, who clocked a swim of 1:55.52.<\/p>\n

Li Bingjie<\/strong> and Pan Zhanle<\/strong> continued their strong showings with respective crowns in the women\u2019s 800 freestyle and men\u2019s 400 freestyle. Li topped the field in the 800 freestyle with a time of 8:20.34, which was three seconds clear of the 8:23.86 of Yang Peiqi<\/strong>. As for Pan, who already corralled titles in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, he registered a time of 3:46.40 to win the 400 freestyle.<\/p>\n

In other action, Xu Jiayu<\/strong> finished off a sweep of the backstroke events by winning the 200 distance in 1:56.33. In the women\u2019s 50 butterfly, Zhang Yufei<\/strong> was quickest in 25.47, followed by Yu Yiting<\/strong> in 25.86. Yu had already earned wins in the 200 individual medley and 400 medley, and was the runnerup in the 100 fly to Zhang.<\/p>\n
