{"id":528213,"date":"2023-05-04T10:25:31","date_gmt":"2023-05-04T17:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=528213"},"modified":"2023-05-04T10:38:56","modified_gmt":"2023-05-04T17:38:56","slug":"michael-phelps-partners-with-talkspace-for-celebrate-every-step-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-phelps-partners-with-talkspace-for-celebrate-every-step-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Phelps Partners with Talkspace for \u2018Celebrate Every Step\u2019 Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Michael Phelps Partners with Talkspace for \u2018Celebrate Every Step\u2019 Campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> has partnered with Talkspace for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/talkspace-michael-phelps-kick-off-120000739.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the \u2018Celebrate Every Step\u2019 campaign<\/a> to raise awareness of the benefits of therapy.<\/p>\n<p>Phelps, the 28-time Olympic medalist, has worked with the online behavioral health company many times before, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispot.tv\/ad\/qmYG\/talkspace-dark-times-featuring-michael-phelps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appearing in advertising campaigns<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.talkspace.com\/michael\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sharing his story of how pivotal therapy<\/a> was to conquering mental health struggles in and out of the pool. This latest endeavor showcases similar stories from Talkspace members about how therapy has improved their lives. This comes against a backdrop where, per a Talkspace press release, more people are willing to talk openly about their mental health challenges, and athletes in particular are more apt to share their struggles on the mental side of their sports. In his retirement, Phelps has become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-phelps-hopes-mental-health-focus-can-save-a-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a passionate advocate on mental heath issues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Therapy helped save my life,&#8221; Phelps said in a press release. &#8220;Prioritizing my mental health has given me the chance to become a better version of myself \u2013 from improving communication skills to changing negative emotions. I\u2019m excited to help support Talkspace\u2019s \u2018Celebrate Every Step\u2019 campaign, as it recognizes people who are courageously sharing their experiences with therapy, which further breaks the stigmas surrounding mental health care and encourages help-seeking behavior.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Talkspace also has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-swimming-introduces-new-partnership-with-talkspace-as-part-of-new-national-team-mental-health-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a partnership with USA Swimming<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Phelps has been busy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-phelps-opens-up-about-mental-health-during-pandemic-in-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in years past advocating for access to and acceptance of therapy<\/a> for those struggling with issues like the depression and anxiety that once threatened Phelps\u2019 swimming career.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to show examples of tools people have taken from therapy to make progress in their own lives.
