{"id":527868,"date":"2023-04-22T13:00:22","date_gmt":"2023-04-22T20:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=527868"},"modified":"2023-04-22T13:00:22","modified_gmt":"2023-04-22T20:00:22","slug":"kristof-milak-concludes-hungarian-championships-with-50-80-100-fly-benedek-kovacs-shines-in-200-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kristof-milak-concludes-hungarian-championships-with-50-80-100-fly-benedek-kovacs-shines-in-200-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Kristof Milak Concludes Hungarian Championships With 50.80 100 Fly; Benedek Kovacs Shines in 200 Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kristof Milak Concludes Hungarian Championships With 50.80 100 Fly; Benedek Kovacs Shines in 200 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Having already secured wins in the 100 freestyle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kristof-milak-soars-to-152-58-in-200-fly-at-hungarian-championships-in-kaposvar-returns-to-take-50-free-silver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">200 butterfly<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kristof-milak-goes-146-66-to-win-200-free-at-hungarian-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">200 freestyle<\/a>, Hungarian superstar\u00a0<strong>Kristof Milak<\/strong> finished off his national championships with a strong effort in the 100 butterfly. Milak went out in 23.82 to open up a slight lead over\u00a0<strong>Richard Marton<\/strong>, and he closed in 26.98 to hit the wall in 50.80. Marton ended up second in 51.70.<\/p>\n<p>The time moves Milak, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-kristof-milak-dominates-100-fly-final-for-second-title-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reigning world champion in the event<\/a>, into a tie for second in the world in the early going of 2023, while Marton squeezed into the world top-10. Milak joined American <strong>Shaine Casas<\/strong> at 50.80, with Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Liendo<\/strong> sitting first at 50.36. Milak was just over a second off his best time, the European record of 49.68 he swam in winning silver behind\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> at the Tokyo Olympics. Milak sits behind only Dressel in the all-time rankings, with only two other men (<strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Milorad Cavic<\/strong>) having ever broken 50.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 200 backstroke,\u00a0<strong>Benedek Kovacs<\/strong> led wire-to-wire to take the win in 1:56.11. That marked moved Kovacs ahead of world champion <strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> for the second-best time in the world this year, and the only man ahead of him is another Hungarian,\u00a0<strong>Hubert Kos<\/strong>. The Arizona State University-trained Kos went 1:55.95 to win the event at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Westmont, Ill., last week.<\/p>\n<p>Kovacs was eighth in this event at the World Championships last year while countryman <strong>Adam Telegdy<\/strong> placed sixth. Telegdy ended up second Saturday in 1:57.35, which left him just shy of the world top-10, and third went to\u00a0<strong>Alex Kovats<\/strong> in 1:58.24, with that time breaking\u00a0<strong>Peter Bernek&#8217;s<\/strong> Hungarian 17-year-old record (1:58.66).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eszter Szabo-Feltothy<\/strong>\u00a0won the women&#8217;s 200 back in 2:08.85, moving to eighth in the world this year. Other women&#8217;s winners included <strong>Panna Ugrai<\/strong> in the 100 fly (59.00) and <strong>Dalma Sebestyen<\/strong> in the 50 breaststroke (31.26), while\u00a0<strong>Oliver Gal<\/strong> won the men&#8217;s 50 breast in 28.32.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/live.musz.hu\/event\/program?OnlineEventId=102699363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kristof Milak Concludes Hungarian Championships With 50.80 100 Fly;
