400m Title On The Gold Coast<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Olympic champion <strong>Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> has laid down one of her fastest ever times in the middle of hard training, clocking 4:00.49 to defend her National 400m title on the Gold Coast tonight.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old from St Peters Western, QLD was never headed \u2013 out in 1:58.27 and swimming away to record a comfortable win over World Short Course champion <strong>Lani Pallister<\/strong> (Griffith University, QLD) 4:05.86 (2:00.71) with New Zealand Olympian <strong>Eve Thomas, <\/strong>who is training alongside Ariarne Titmus and under master coach<strong> Dean Boxall, <\/strong>third home in a huge personal best of 4:06.10 (2:02.41).<\/p>\n<p>Titmus admitted swimming at the moment is like driving a test car on an empty tank of fuel, saying she went out to have a good crack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to know where you are at at the moment with training being pretty tough, \u201cTitmus said after her return to racing after Canadian Summer McIntosh broke her world record late last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis meet is more about going out there and seeing what you\u2019ve got while you are a but tired, but that\u2019s fun to have a bit of a mental reprieve and to come here and race and that\u2019s why we do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kaylee-mckeown-shock-australian-title-win-in-the-200m-breaststroke-stops-the-clock-in-an-eye-catching-2-24-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" Olympian <strong>Jill Horstead<\/strong>) at No 1 with her new WR of 3:56.08 with <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>\u2019s 3:59.71 at No. 2.<\/p>\n<p>While Pallister, the daughter of 1988 Australian Olympian <strong>Janelle Elford<\/strong>, sitting ninth and Thomas, at No. 10 and she rounds out our \u201cdaughters of famous mums\u201d \u2013 with her mum, <strong>Sarah Hardcastle<\/strong>
