Egyptian swimmer Mohamed Samy<\/strong> has been suspended for 18 months for a positive drug test last June, a ban that lasts through December 2023.<\/p>\n

Samy\u2019s positive was announced last week by the World Aquatics Integrity Unit<\/a>. The 26-year-old tested positive on June 16, 2022 and will be banned until Dec. 19, 2023.<\/p>\n

The test came at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest. Samy swam on the Egyptian 400 freestyle relay and the 100 backstroke, finishing 20th in the latter, before scratching out of the 50 back and 100 free.<\/p>\n

Samy tested positive for an anabolic agent, selective androgen receptor modulator SARMS S-23. The substance is illegal for in-competition and out-of-competition use.<\/p>\n

Samy swam at Indiana University<\/a>. He was a five-time All-America as both a junior in 2019 and a sophomore in 2018, including a silver medal at NCAAs in the 800 free relay in 2018.<\/a> He added three All-America nods in 2017. He placed fourth in the 200 free at NCAAs in 2018.<\/p>\n

Samy swam for Egypt at the 2017 and 2019 FINA World Championships as well as the 2019 African Games. He took part in the International Swimming League with DC Trident.<\/p>\n

Also among the swimmers appearing on the banned list is another Egyptian, the artistic swimmer Shahd Abdallah.<\/strong> She competed at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and is suspended until the day before the opening of the Paris Games. Abdallah tested positive for a masking agent, furosemide. Her positive test was also collected on June 16, and her period of ineligibility runs until June 25, 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
