THE inaugural CSCAA Collegiate Classic wrapped up tonight with victories by Western Kentucky, Incarnate Word, Rice, Grand Canyon and BYU. Grand Canyon\u2019s Illya Glazunov and Western Kentucky\u2019s Nadine Laemmler collected their third individual wins of the meet and Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Swimmer of the Meet honors as the first-year invitational came to a close.<\/p>\n<p>The final evening of competition started off with finals in the women\u2019s and men\u2019s 1650 freestyle. Despite having only two other competitors to race in the championship final, Western Kentucky\u2019s Sam Holmes still edged her season best in the event with a winning time of 16:43.67. That snuck under her previous time of 16:45.55. Grand Canyon\u2019s Inha Kotsur finished a distant second in 17:16.76, while Lauren Bennett of Incarnate Word took third in 17:52.73. In the men\u2019s mile, Incarnate Word sophomore Connor Hennessy just missed his season best of 15:33.69 with a 15:34.01, which was still comfortably ahead of second place finisher Russell Bryant of Western Kentucky (15:43.51). Sam Cramer picked up Rider\u2019s first podium finish with a 15:55.97 for third.<\/p>\n<p>Western Kentucky freshman Nadine Laemmler capped her impressive meet with her third individual victory in the 200 back. Laemmler, who also won the 200 IM and 100 back at the meet, just out-touched Grand Canyon\u2019s Iryna Glavnyk, 1:55.36 to 1:55.52, for the win. Western Kentucky\u2019s Allie Duff finished right behind in 1:56.08 for third. In the men\u2019s 200 back, Incarnate Word senior Andrii Nikishenko earned his first individual win of the meet with a solid showing of 1:43.68, which cut about three-tenths off his season best of 1:43.94 from the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships. Iegor Lytvenok of Grand Canyon, who had been a 1:43.48 at the WAC Championships, took second tonight in 1:45.26. Chris Goodman of Western Kentucky rounded out the top three in 1:47.75.<\/p>\n<p>Rice showcased its sprint free prowess with a sweep of the top three spots in the women\u2019s 100 free. Cora McKenzie lowered her season best of 49.76 from the Conference USA Championships with a 49.55 for the win, ahead of teammates Karina Wlostowska (50.28) and Kimberly Steinhouse (51.58). Grand Canyon\u2019s Illya Glazunov picked up the freestyle triple with his win in the men\u2019s 100 free. Glazunov, who also won the 50 and 200 free earlier in the meet, posted a season best 43.45 to edge BYU\u2019s Jake Taylor (43.71). Mazen El Kamash of Grand Canyon came in third at 44.36.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing second in the 100 breast last night, Western Kentucky\u2019s Claire Conlon moved up a spot in the longer distance, cutting seven seconds off her prelim time to win in 2:12.06. She just missed her season best of 2:11.42 from the Conference USA Championships. Rice\u2019s Rachel Moody, winner of the 100 breast, took second in 2:17.74, while her teammate Shelbi Ragsdale rounded out the top three in 2:19.88. Incarnate Word\u2019s Thiago Parravicini swept the men\u2019s breaststroke events at the meet with a 1:54.56 in the 200 tonight, edging his season best of 1:54.67. Rafa Alfaro of BYU picked up second in 1:59.36, while Western Kentucky\u2019s Connor Dwyer also craked 2:00 with a 1:59.61.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Canyon freshman Hannah Kastigar, winner of the 400 IM last night, went two-for-three in her individual events with a second victory in the 200 fly. Kastigar touched in 1:58.46, ahead of Western Kentucky teammates Susan Marquess (1:59.81) and Courtney Marx (2:03.31). BYU\u2019s Rainer Ng capped the final individual event of the meet in victorious fashion, touching the wall first in 1:47.43. Stanislav Saiko of Grand Canyon held on for second in 1:48.30, just ahead of another BYU swimmer, Lucas Aquino (1:48.41).<\/p>\n<p>Finals of the women\u2019s and men\u2019s 400 free relays wrapped up the inaugural CSCAA Collegiate Classic. With the top three finishers in the 100 free, it came as no surprise that Rice topped the field in the women\u2019s relay. Rachel Moody, Kimberly Steinhouse, Cora McKenzie and Karina Wlostowska touched first in 3:21.60, 1.01 seconds ahead of Western Kentucky\u2019s 3:22.61. Grand Canyon rounded out the top three in 3:23.40. On the men\u2019s side, Grand Canyon cruised to a dominating win, touching first by almost four seconds.
