NCAA Men’s Championships: Will Gallant, Ross Dant Lead NC State 1-2 in Mile<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ross Dant<\/strong> hit the wall in the penultimate heat of the mile and shared a bit of wisdom with Will Gallant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NC State junior had just set a best time of 14:30.32 in the next-to-last heat of the 1,650 freestyle at the 2023 NCAA Championships. Gallant would swim in the final heat when the evening session began.<\/p>\n

\u201cI touched, and I knew \u2013 I told this to Will \u2013 that the only person who can beat me is him,\u201d a jubilant Dant said. \u201cI was confident in that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Confident, and correct. The NC State distance guys went 1-2, the start of a marauding evening for the Wolfpack.<\/p>\n

Dant set down a wicked fast time in the next-to-last heat, a time that allowed the 13th seed to cut some 14.5 seconds off his seed time. No one but his teammate could match it in the final, Gallant clocking in at 14:28.94 to dominate that heat.<\/p>\n
