FIFTY-FIVE year-old George Wendt shattered the USMS national record for the men&#39;s 55-59 age group in the 1650-yard freestyle at the Illinois Short Course State Championships this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Wendt touched in 18:41.32, bettering Sandy Galletly\u2019s old mark of 19:01.09 from May 15, 1999. &quot;I felt really good the whole race,&quot; says Wendt. &quot;My taper hit just right.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>This is Wendt\u2019s second national record of 2003. He previously lowered the 400 IM mark on February 16 by almost four seconds.
