Penny Oleksiak to Miss Canadian Swimming Trials, Still Rehabbing After Knee Surgery<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> will not compete at the upcoming Bell Canadian Swimming Trials as she continues to focus on her rehabilitation from injury.<\/p>\n

Oleksiak had surgery to repair the meniscus<\/a>\u00a0in her left knee last fall. While she has continued to advance in her rehabilitation program, she has also been working through complications in her other knee and shoulder.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m working hard to prioritize my recovery right now. Unfortunately, I\u2019m not quite ready to race my best at Trials,\u201d Penny Oleksiak said.<\/p>\n

The decision was made in consultation with Swimming Canada High Performance Director and National Coach John Atkinson<\/strong> and High Performance Centre \u2013 Ontario Head Coach Ryan<\/strong> Mallette<\/strong>, supported by team medical personnel.<\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s most decorated Olympian with seven medals will continue to work with team physicians and her coach to determine her timeline for returning to competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to other opportunities to compete this season, and looking ahead to being my best in Paris,\u201d Penny Oleksiak said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to work with her as she progresses in her recovery, and when the time is right, we look forward to seeing her return to her best in racing,\u201d Mallette said. \u201cWe want to help Penny get back to her best, and the goal is for her to be ready to compete for medals at Paris 2024 and add to her career achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n
