No Division III swimmer had ever broken 1:35.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James McChesney<\/strong> blew both of those truths out of the water Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>The TCNJ junior blasted a time of 1:34.75, a meet and NCAA record, to win the 200 free at the Greensboro Aquatic Club Thursday on the second night of the meet.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t the first record to go down in the evening session, nor even the most intriguing one. Rhodes                              1<\/pre>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 200 freestyle relay<\/h4>\n<p>Emory is making a move in the first relay, winning by three tenths of a second to break a second-place tie with Kenyon and put pressure on Denison.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles went 1:31.62 with the squad of <strong>Caroline Maki, Sammi Kass, Penny Celnieks<\/strong> and <strong>Taylor Leone.<\/strong> Maki got them out in 22.98, the only sub-23 swim. Leone rallied them from second to get past Tufts with her split of 22.27 on the anchor.<\/p>\n<p>Tufts took silver in 1:31.97. Kenyon, which won the event last year in an NCAA record time, earned the bronze medal. A change of the order with the same foursome cut nearly two seconds off the time to get the win in 1:18.40, the squad of <strong>Djordje Dragojlovic, Mart Niehoff, KT Cherantha de Silva<\/strong> and <strong>Daniel Brooks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Calvin, the morning pace-setter and the only team sub-1:19 entering the meet, grabbed silver in 1:18.85. Her time was a second faster than the winning time last year.<\/p>\n<p>Trinity freshman <strong>Neely Burns<\/strong> dropped 2.5 seconds to take silver in 4:18.50, the only other swimmer sub-4:20. The Kenyon senior, who\u2019d entered with the top seed, was more than five seconds quicker at night than in the morning to win in 3:49.58. He was nearly two seconds clear of Washington University\u2019s <strong>Daniel Sibley,<\/strong> who went 3:51.20.<\/p>\n<p>Third went to Emory\u2019s <strong>Benjamin Thorsen<\/strong> in 3:52.07, followed .02 seconds back by teammate<strong> Ryan<\/strong> Gibbons. The top seed from prelims, Pomona-Pitzer\u2019s <strong>Larry Yu<\/strong>, slipped all the way to eighth, seven seconds slower.<\/p>\n<h4>Women\u2019s 100 butterfly<\/h4>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Lily Klinginsmith\u2019s<\/strong> NCAA career is off to a flying start, the Tufts rookie going 53.65 to lead the field. But Kenyon\u2019s Krtinic spiled the party in finals by going 46.51 to win the final.<\/p>\n<p>Krtinic\u2019s time sets the meet record. The NCAA record, set in 2021 by Kenyon\u2019s <strong>David Fitch<\/strong> at 46.46, prevails. Krtinic was fifth in prelims. The NYU rookie went 1:47.44, pulling away from the field by 1.36 seconds to augment her gold in the 50 free. She was a second quicker than the winning time last year by Tufts\u2019 <strong>Claire Brennan,<\/strong> who finished sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Second went to Denison\u2019s <strong>Taryn Wisner<\/strong>, her second silver of the meet, in 1:48.80. The TCNJ junior was the second seed in the morning at 1:37.15, then blasted the field with a 1:34.74.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s quicker than the meet record, set by last year\u2019s winner <strong>Jamie<\/strong> <strong>Lovette<\/strong> of Williams at 1:36.00. Lovette also set the Division III mark at conference champs last year with a 1:35.52, a team that McChesney nearly hacked a second out of.<\/p>\n<p>Amazingly, he was second after 150 yards. But he uncorked his second-fastest 50 of the race at 24.10 coming home to pass Emory\u2019s<strong> Pat Pema.<\/strong> Pema took silver in 1:36.09, and teammate <strong>Nick Goudie<\/strong> was fourth. Washington\u2019s <strong>Mason Kelber,<\/strong> who had set the pace in prelims, finished third in 1:37.06.
