The 2023 NCAA Division I Women\u2019s Championships continued from Knoxville, Tennessee, on Thursday with the Day 2 prelims session.<\/p>\n

The Day 2 prelims session consists of the 500 freestyle, 200 IM and 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n

NCAA Women’s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

The highly anticipated showdown between Virginia teammates Kate Douglass<\/strong> and Alex Walsh<\/strong> was off to a strong start after prelims – but they are by no means alone as contenders.<\/p>\n

The Olympic medalists were in separate prelim heats, so did not go head-to-head, adding to the anticipation for the finals.<\/p>\n

Of course, some other star swimmers will have a huge say in what happens in the finals.<\/p>\n

Stanford’s Torri Huske<\/strong> got to the wall in 1:52.38 in the first of three circle-seeded heats.<\/p>\n

Walsh won her heat in 1:52.89.<\/p>\n

Douglass won the final prelim heat in 1:51.81 and will have the top overall seed in the finals.<\/p>\n

Huske is second, followed by Walsh. There is a decent drop off in time (more than a second) between third and fourth.<\/p>\n

Louisville senior Abby Hay<\/strong> took the fourth spot in 1:54.03), followed by Virginia senior Ella Nelson<\/strong> (1:54.06), Texas junior Emma Sticklen<\/strong> (1:54.18), Duke junior Sally Foley<\/strong> (1:54.35) and Wisconsin junior Phoebe Bacon<\/strong> (1:54.43).<\/p>\n
